    D&D 5E (2014) The lazy class idea

Seems like it's basically "Fighter" without any class features? Not broken, but as you say boring. Also weak. Slightly broken if the class allows by-pass of Ability Score limits. But even then, not dramatically broken, and probably not broken enough to outweigh the general weakness of no class...

That player in the back of the room

Absolutely. This is an issue that is entirely resolvable in-play, in-character. Indeed it doesn't need resolving as such. The PCs reacting in different ways to the in-game circumstances, and then having in-character disagreements about what they are doing, and whether everyone is...

That player in the back of the room

The players complaining need to start role-playing and solve the problem in-character. The supposedly problematic player seemingly turns up, and plays out how his PC reacts to the scenario in a sensible and engaging way. The players complaining need to simply role-play out, in-character, how...

D&D 5E (2014) What is the point of material components when Wish exists?

It smells of a "theoretical concern" that arises in a hypothetical, high-level character "build". That is, not an in-play concern at all. Even if a character is high enough level to cast Wish there are still plenty of reasons not to use it for everything.

    Dragonlance Dragonlance 5E

There are a few references to Dragonlance characters in the PHB, MM, and DMG. So, that would suggest that Wizard's plans to do something with the property in 5E (otherwise the references wouldn't be there). Exactly what will be done and when, and how definite those plans are, is unknown. As...

D&D 5E (2014) What is the point of material components when Wish exists?

Using Wish to duplicate a lower level spell is really only a good idea if you a) want the lower level effect, and b) can't cast the lower level effect. The reasons for not being able to cast the lower level effect include i) wrong class, ii) not having memorised the spell, iii) not having the...

D&D 5E (2014) [RANT] Why are centaurs not humanoids / unplayable?

Of course not. But it is much more interesting if you just use the spells as written, and thus the centaur is immune to a small number of effects (that would usually rarely target PCs anyway). It is actually better (in terms of game play) if the centaur is different.

D&D 5E (2014) [RANT] Why are centaurs not humanoids / unplayable?

And the horse creates the precedent for a centaur being Large, as does the Monster Manual entry for centaur, for that matter. The expectation that the PCs would want the possibility of using a centaur as a mount also requires it to be Large; if you want to use the existing rules. Being Large...

D&D 5E (2014) [RANT] Why are centaurs not humanoids / unplayable?

You do know that the mount rules are pretty non-problematic? The rules just say if the proposed creature is one size category larger and has appropriate anatomy, it can be a mount, and then gives rules for working out movement if you mount/dismount during your turn and saving throws for falling...

D&D 5E (2014) [RANT] Why are centaurs not humanoids / unplayable?

Because it makes sense. His ass / back is a horse. That doesn't really seem consistent with the conventional way a centaur is drawn. The conventional depiction of a centaur doesn't seem to imply anything anatomically problematic with a centaur being ridden, more-or-less, like a horse...

D&D 5E (2014) [RANT] Why are centaurs not humanoids / unplayable?

Yes. I agree (see my post after the one you quote!). A centaur PC should be Large, but cannot wield oversized weaponry.

D&D 5E (2014) [RANT] Why are centaurs not humanoids / unplayable?

Only if the Large PC is actually wielding an oversized weapon. Given that the man-bit of a centaur (the bit with the arms) is more-or-less normal person sized, a centaur should be wielding normal sized weaponry. The specifics of centaur anatomy mean that he can't really wield oversized...

D&D 5E (2014) [RANT] Why are centaurs not humanoids / unplayable?

A horse is Large. So, centaurs should be too. Also to carry other (Medium sized) characters into combat a mount must be at least one size larger. So, if a centaur PC is going to be carrying other PCs into combat he has to be Large.

D&D 5E (2014) [RANT] Why are centaurs not humanoids / unplayable?

Does that make them unplayable? It just makes them different. Which is sometimes good, sometimes bad. Being immune to Hold Person and being immune to possession via Magic Jar sound like advantages to me. You can still cast a Magic Jar; being non-humanoid just makes you immune to possession via...

D&D 5E (2014) [DM/Flavour Question] Reincarnating (over over until I am a female redhead bugbear)

It was a joke, but why not? This is exactly what those who are saying "use divination / contact outer plane" are implying. You are contacting a "deity" and asking them to intervene --- presumably they will do so only if you are Worthy / Make A Bargain.

D&D 5E (2014) alternate coinage, ie "non decimal gold"

The warhammer system is just the English system pre-decimalisation. As decimalisation happened in many commonwealth countries over the late 1960s and early 1970s, many players (and the authors) of the first edition of WHFRP would have actually learnt this system in their early schooling. Which...

D&D 5E (2014) Is this an abuse of the Advantage/Disadvantage system?

Doing stuff like this seems pretty lame from the point of view of the players, in my experience. Giving out advantage and disadvantage to simply counteract a perception of bad luck ends up undermining the efforts of the other players to use in-play tactics etc that will earn them advantage (or...

D&D 5E (2014) Minor Illusion...can it be cast over other objects?

Maybe, but the person you are attempting to fool with illusionary coins is likely neither an adventurer nor an archaeologist. She's probably an inn-keeper, weapon-smith, horse-trader, or similar.

D&D 5E (2014) Minor Illusion...can it be cast over other objects?

That's not true. As old currency returns to the imperial or royal treasury (or whomever owns the mint) it is melted down and re-cast into the currency of the new emperor/king. That's also assuming that the new regime is not actively hostile to the previous and forcibly seizes all images of the...
