    D&D 5E (2014) Poll: What is a Level 1 PC?

Possibly? Sure. Likely? No. Keep in mind, the 3d6, treat 1s as 3s and 6s as 4s method is for general characters. Special characters, including henchmen, have no such limitation. I read "special" here as anyone other than an ordinary shopkeeper. Otherwise, the 10 year old page will be...

    D&D 5E (2014) Poll: What is a Level 1 PC?

I stand corrected. I only looked at the Thac0 column, which is the same. Even so, that's a 5% difference. Not really much in the scheme of things. Still, they are only marginally worse than a level 1 fighter, and equal to thieves and clerics.

    D&D 5E (2014) Poll: What is a Level 1 PC?

A very small cut. An first level npc has the same attack bonus (none) as a 1st level fighter. While they only roll 3d6 as opposed to 4d6 -1, they also treat any 1 as a 3, and any 6 as a 4. So no 18s, but no 3s either. A minimum of 9 for every stat. They have 1d6 for hp, which can be as...

    D&D 5E (2014) A Compromise on Hit Points

Or, the default could be hd + con mod, and add a sidebar that says "for a wimpier play experience, give characters max hd + con."

    D&D 5E (2014) A Compromise on Hit Points

If 6 points is an average roll, it's too high for any non-warrior. Max should be 10-14 for a warrior depending on con. Maybe have an option for pcs to start with an extra hit die, but not as the default.

Big changes a'coming! Merging the D&D forums

This new change makes it really hard to browse the forums. It's like going to the soup isle in the grocery store and finding paint. Yeah, the soup is there too, but you have to dig to find it. In the past, I go to the 5e forum and read, check out general when I'm bored, maybe a quick run...

Heroes of Might and Magic series...

Lol. I'm playing Heroes 3 as I type this. Been playing it since release. I play online 4 or 5 nights a week. It's the best of the series. It's gone steadily downhill since 3.

A non white male middle class British Doctor?

Agreed. I'd no more want to see a black (or hispanic or whomever) doctor than I would a white Shaft*. * Any euphemisms are strictly coincidental.

    Fudging is not your friend

    1. No. The party generally chooses where they go and when, unless it's a save the princess before the dragon eats her scenario. If someone dies. He either plays a henchman, or rolls up another pc. I work him in when it's appropriate. 2. If they miss clues, they miss clues. They'll find...

    Fudging is not your friend

Fail analogy. If the dm doesn't want a crit to kill a character, he shouldn't use crits. If he doesn't want rot grub to be a possible reincarnation result, he shouldn't put it on the table. If we're simply talking about a high damage roll, well, thems the breaks.

    Fudging is not your friend

If a possible result is unacceptable, it shouldn't be possible to begin with.

    D&D 5E (2014) What should Rogues do?

The thief should be the master of striking from surprise. None of this flanking crap. He should do a crapton of damage by backstabbing from surprise, and be just adequate otherwise. He should be a master of stealth, and going where others can't. His skill list should look familiar - stealth...

    Revolution

Why wouldn't there be mechanics? There are far more mechanics than there are doctors, yet they have one on the show. In one very small community. And those old trucks don't need a lot of parts. I think I put a fuel pump in mine once. It's going on 400,000 miles with the original motor...

So? My grandfather's double barrel shotgun is over 80 years old and works flawlessly. Out of 200 million weapons, a good portion of those are going to be hunting rifles and shotguns. In fact, I'd say most of them. There will be plenty even 100 years after a teotwawki event. Yeah, some will...

    Revolution

Considering there are about 90 guns per 100 people in the US, and a significant portion of the population is going to die when the blackout hits, there's never going to be a shortage of guns. They won't have to be made for a long, long, time. And that's not even counting guns owned by the...
