D&D 5E (2014) How important is party balance in Next? (iow, how necessary are clerics?)

I've never played an edition of D&D where a cleric was necessary. Or any other class for that matter.

What's your favorite "fodder" monster race?

    None. I don't do fodder.

D&D 5E (2014) Why the claim of combat and class balance between the classes is mainly a forum issue. (In my opinion)

Yep. Leather armor and a spear or scimitar. A Wooden shield. Ac 7 for one attack, 8 for the rest. Multiple attribute dependancy. And a siege weapon that rarely ever comes into play. Druids are one of my favorite classes, and I can't ever remember casting Call Lightning in over 30 years of...

would you play your least fav edition if asked by friends

*Invites Morrus over for a rousing game of "pull my finger..."

would you play your least fav edition if asked by friends

Exactly. I don't like Savage Worlds, but I played an entire campaign of it because a couple of my friends wanted to play. But if it's 4e, I will find something more enjoyable to do, like stapling my tongue to the wall.

would you play your least fav edition if asked by friends

Nope. I'll catch them next time. My friends have hobbies I'm not interested in, as I'm sure I have hobbies they're not interested in. And that's okay, where our tastes intersect, we enjoy each others company, where they don't, we do not. I enjoy hiking, but I didn't ask my D&D buddies to go...

Original Star Wars actors to take center stage in new movie

Why? He's right. The new Star Trek is as horrid as the Star wars prequels.

Pathfinder 1E Should I kill off players who don't show?

Sounds to me like you need better players. Players who are interested in gaming, and aren't just looking for something to fill a few hours when they have nothing better to do. I've had these kind of players before. Best thing to do is cut ties with them (as far as gaming is concerned)...

    D&D 5E (2014) Why I Think D&DN is In Trouble

My group is just the opposite of yours. We are seeing a 3e/43 hybrid and not much of anything resembling a classic D&D product. Different tastes and all, but the fact that two groups with diametrically opposite wants in a D&D game are both dissatisfied does not bode well for the game.

Which MMO's take place in the modern world?

The Secret World. A really under-rated MMO imo.

Gnomes! (HUH) What are they good for? Absolutely nothing!

Stocky does not mean fat. Today's baseball players follow a similar logic. Mark Mcgwire used a bigger heavier bat than derek Jeter. Babe Ruth, who was a tiny man by today's standards, was reported to have used a 54 0z bat. Derek Jeter uses a 32 oz bat. Guess which one is/was taller?

Gnomes! (HUH) What are they good for? Absolutely nothing!

Nope. 3'9" is max height for a gnome. Gnomes and dwarves can use any one handed weapon as long as it is not longer than they are tall, due to their stockiness. Base height for a gnome is 42 inches, plus or minus 1-3 inches. A long sword is 42 inches long, so as long as you don't roll badly...

Gnomes! (HUH) What are they good for? Absolutely nothing!

Where did this "trickster" crap come from anyway? I don't remember that before 3e, though I barely played 2nd edition.

A question for folks who started with 3E, 4E or Pathfinder: how do earlier editions play for you?

I started with 1E, so this may not be relevant, but I do know that young 'uns in our group seem to prefer 1e.

Repeating the Mistakes of the Past

I like an occasional megadungeon, but on the whole, my group, and really every group I've played in over the last 30 some years, seems to prefer shorter adventures. Something that can be played in a couple nights or so. They are also easier to plug into a campaign than a huge 6 volume...

Gnomes! (HUH) What are they good for? Absolutely nothing!

Gnomes have sucked since 2nd edition. The 1e gnome kicks ass. No ability score penalties, great save bonuses, speak with burrowing mammals, great ac against virtually every humanoid larger than an orc, and they are the only race capable of being a multiclass illusionist. If UA is used, a...

What are your D&D plans for 2014?

Continue to play 1E AD&D like I have for the last 33 years, absent a small foray into 3e.
