Oh... a break down of the skills is here

Not quite. The human pre-gen had both. If you run the numbers on his defenses, he's got a mystery +1 all around.

D&D 4E Kill 200 Kobolds! (Or running 4E with just DDXP info)

Ok, then why not list the number, instead of the whole sequence? "Recharge 6 5 4 3" seems silly when "Recharge 3" is what it means. At least the system itself is being streamlined, if not the stat blocks entirely.

D&D 4E Kill 200 Kobolds! (Or running 4E with just DDXP info)

But... So, like saves, you roll at the end of the following round. This roll is a d6, but which number? There's 4 listed. It wouldn't make sense to list them in that order unless it's: first roll on a 3 or better, second roll on a 4 or better... but that's silly. It would get harder to...

Hey, I'm totally confused about the recharge rate. Anyone have any ideas?

    D&DXP: Skills...

    Cantrips.

    D&DXP: Skills...

Fair enough. That leaves the Wizard with only 3 trained skills from class.

    D&DXP: Skills...

I thinks so. The wizard has Int 20 +5, and I had to do some figuring to get his trained skills up to 4.

    D&DXP: Skills...

Looking over the char sheets from D&Dxp, here's what I think's going on. Universal class skills: Everyone gets them, but they're not necessarily trained. Acrobatics, Athletics, Insight, Perception, Stealth. Insight and Perception are used as static "defenses" against Bluff? and Stealth...

    Defenses: Crunching the numbers...

No, many things are not spelled out, but we can deduce many things from the sheet, the skills are simple... I'll start another thread in a few.

    Defenses: Crunching the numbers...

Here's what we have from the D&DXP character sheets, assuming the scoop of higher of two stats for defenses: The issue is with the Warlock (+1 to two defenses), Ranger (+1 to all), and the Cleric (mystery +1 to all). Racial abilities are listed on the character sheet (e.g. the Halfling's Small...

    Two stats per defense!

Yes, I was. The blog doesn't say "either Str or Con feed into Fort." It says, "Str and Con feed into Fort." There is a huge difference between "either" and "and."

    Two stats per defense!

That doesn't add up. It makes sense, but the math is wrong. Specifically, the fighter and wizards defenses don't match that. These are the only two that come up short. The rest are spot on, or have mystery bonuses. If your "scoop" is the case, then there are are also no defense bonuses given...

So we got the sheets, let's calculate the crunch!!

Yeah, but those Tylenol are given out by the character's god. Only when you hand them out, the god leans down and says, "wait, he's run out of surges, don't give it to him." That's lame.

So we got the sheets, let's calculate the crunch!!

Anyone else take a look at healing? Cleric: Healing Word. Twice per encounter, once per round. Burst (not touch). Target has to spend a surge. Paladin: Lay on Hands. Three times per day, once per round. Touch. Paladin spends a surge. The cleric can do it more often, but the target has to...

    Rogue: 6 skills or 10?

I think it's just bad editing. Hopefully the text will be cleaned up before printing. Fixing things like that late in the process are expensive. If the numbers were different (4 then 6) you might have a case, but since they're both the same, it's likely bad writing/editing.

    Possible Rules Patent?

Not exactly, according to the Berne Convention copyright lasts 50 years after the death of the author if it's published in their lifetime. If it's published posthumously, it's longer. In the States, it's a bit longer, life + 70 years. The duration of trademark it not tied to defense, but use...

    Possible Rules Patent?

I just finished a grad class on copyright and patent. To patent something it has to be non-obvious to an "average person" in the particular field. The rules would have to be non-obvious to an "average game designer." Basically, you can't patent them, ever.

    R&C: Net gain abilities...

I think that is where I was confused. On the info page (and with the stat card for the Spined Devil) it looks like ability modifiers are now only positive numbers. That appears to be false. It's the racial ability modifiers that are only bonuses now, instead of bonuses and penalties. So ability...

    R&C: Net gain abilities...

When you need to make ability checks. When a skill doesn't cover something. I'm not advocating listing every skill maybe something like... ..............STR...DEX...CON...INT...WIS...CHA .....MOD...+x....+x.....+x....+x....+x.....+x ....SKILL...+x....+x.....+x....+x....+x.....+x Because there...
