WotC News - Is this for real???

It would be interesting to har whether or not it worked, as in my humble opinion, Dragon Magic looks to be one of the least intriguing books that WotC has put out.

Birthright. Tell Me About It. Please.

I never got a chance to run Birthright but I wanted to for quite a while. If I did, I am not sure whether or not I would use the whole political/domain rulership aspect of the campaign or just use it as a setting for a more typical adventuring campaign like an_idol_mind suggests. At any rate...

    WotC & Their Adventures

I can't imagine being upset about the adventure trend. I love it, and as others have said, if you don't need them, just don't buy them.

Is gaming without map and minis really bad?

I currently use minis most of the time but don't have any aversion to playing without them (and like many others, did so for the first 2/3 of my gaming career). When you have the right minis and some good scenery, it is great, but I would rather use nothing at all than counters on a blank...

    Mearls Monster Makeover: Beholder

I haven't tried this guy in play (nor have I actually run a by-the-book beholder), but I am not wowed by the re-work. Changing the Anti-magic cone so that it only affect spellcasting (and even then only some of the time) destroys tons of flavor. I agree with previous posters that figuring out...

    NPCs: Stat Blocks or Backgrounds

It depends on the NPCs role, but assuming that we are talking about someone who will likely face combat, the stat block is more important (and more of a pain to do yourself). That said, any important NPCs should still have some background provided.

What do you want to see in the fourth Adventure Path?

Count me in as another who would rather see a path from 1-12 than all the way to 20. The same old monsters problem previously discussed is one issue (and though I love demons, we could definately use the break from them), but also it's a matter of available time to play. We don't play weekly...

Providence, Rhode Island Gameday -- Nov 11

I have a prior engagement already on the 11th so I can't make this one. Have fun!

Help me choose! "Shackled City" or "Age of Worms"?

I would go with Age of Worms. The adventures are more varied than those in Shackled City and the pacing is great too. Age of Worms feels much more like iconic D&D to me. Lots of great villians and epic happenings. I would definately recommend running it in Greyhawk, as despite the illusions...

Old school/new school definitions -- meaningless?

Certainly, opinions will vary quite a bit from person to person, but in my experience, it's pretty widely accepted that Dragonlance is not old school. If anything, the Dragonlance adventures were the death knell of old school as they marked a pronounced shift itowards modules that focused more...

    Why wouldn't Someone Learn Magic...

Because they don't want to fall behind on their BAB.

The Great EN World News Poll

I agree with this, and would go so far as to say it does a disservice to the poll results to allow voting from the news page. Furthermore, I think the options are a bit confusing. For example, I often click on "Discuss" when I really mean to read the discussion (i.e., click on "This poll has X...

The Great EN World News Poll

This describes me exactly. I used to read the d20 news all the time, but now I almost always gloss over it. I read it anyway but prefer less blurb. Finally, regarding magazines, I read it, but frankly I only care about Dungeon and Dragon, not about e-zines and the like.

Do your PCs' actions carry over into your next campaign?

In principle, I say yes it matters (regardless of homebrew or published, though since it was not multiple choice and I am currently using a homenbrew, I voted that way). In practice, none of my campaigns have overlapped geographically enough for it to come up.

    Greenwood on FR npcs

I think that's one of the problems with some of Ed's material. I really don't need to hear so much about the sex-life of his characters.

    Dual cover runs?

I'd go with hardcover if it's the core book for the system (or just about any rulebook, if as REG says it's more than 150 pages or so). I like softcover for adventures.

    What's your screen name from?

Mine's pretty self-explantory...just my first name squished with the end of my last.

Why are Favoured Souls so Popular?

I've never seen anyone play a favored soul, so like fafhrd and Felon, I'll have to say that as far as I can tell, they are not.

    What was your first module?

First I played in was Tomb of Horrors, first I ran was Blizzard Pass. I'm not sure which was the first that I owned/read, but I think it may have been Isle of Dread.
