    Use Rope Useless?

Yep, we never use it. I definately think it should be folded in with some other skill.

    Forrested Mountains don't exist

Growing up, all the mountains I ever knew were forested (except of course above the treeline) so I always thought it was assumed that mountains included forest. I was surprised when I first started traveling out west and realized that there were whole ranges mostly bare of vegetation. At any...

    Top down, or bottom-up?

A mix I guess, that I'd lean towards top down if I had to. Basically, I started with the outline of a huge continent and related subcontinent, then zoomed in show about 1/4 of that area and started filling the map in with countries and terrain features. While doing this I had a pretty good...

    Who ELSE buys PDFs?

One other situation in which I could picture myself buying a PDF is that of Necromancer Games' Tome of Horrors v3.5. I already have the 3.0 version, and to my knowledge, they're only releasing the revision as a .PDF. I'd be hesitant to spend the full price on a revised hard copy anyway, but if...

    Who ELSE buys PDFs?

I vastly prefer physical books to PDFs but buy PDFs occassionally (probably about 6-8 ever). There are two basic reasons why I'd buy one: 1. buying out of print books that are too hard to find or too expensive in hard copy. For example, I've bought a few of the classic modules like B3...

    TSR Q&A with Gary Gygax

Hi Gary, Just a quick note to thank you for a lifetime worth of entertainment and inspiration ...and more immediately, for putting an end to that ridiculous argument. ;)

How did you experience the WotC Setting Search

I participated as an observer. In earlier days, getting a chance to be the designer of a new setting would have been a dream come true for me. But by the time the search rolled around, and especially based on what Wizards was asking for, it was clear to me that what was to my taste in a...

    House of Gryphon Hill-I10

It's been years since I bothered to read I10, but from what I recall, it was definately inferior to I6 -- more confusing and less interesting. It seemed like if you didn't run both modules simultaneously as suggested, I10 wouldn't be much of a draw. But if you did run them together, you were...

Tell me about Castles and Crusades

Yes, but overall, they seem to be a bit simpler than the spell descriptions in 3e/3.5.

"Mount Zogon" comic in Dungeon Magazine

hi Tony, I already mentioned this in the Dragon issue #329 contents thread but in case you didn't catch it there... Great job! Also, I noticed on your site that you archived the Mt. Zogon strips but said you hadn't yet decided whether or not you'd do the same for Zogonia. If you don't mind...

If you could have created D&D before Gygax..

yeah, Virel, please explain. I hadn't heard about this plan and am curious. What was the fourth book? My guess - a book of magic, separated out from the main PHB.

    XP for NPCs

I've calculated XP for cohorts a few times. But for anyone who's not traveling with the party, no way. For bad guys and important NPCs I just bump them when I think I need to.

Whispers of the Vampires Blade opinion?

I'd have to give it a reread to give a detailed analysis, but my opinion was that, as written, it was fairly railroady, but that there were lots of vey memorable scenes. All in all, a fun module for a good DM who was ready to wing it if necessary, but not something I'd recommend for beginners.

    Minidungeon for an evening...

It's a gigantic dungeon but not all of it is detailed. There were two boxed sets and three modules. If I remember correctly, the boxed sets mapped about 3-4 levels each (most of which are generally about the size of the map you saw), and of those, only certain portions of each level were...

    Dragon issue #329 contents

I'd have to say that it's not too often that any of the comics in Dragon or Dungeon go any further than making me crack a smile, but the Zogonia at the end of this issue (with the kenku) was an exception. It was hilarious -- I laughed out loud reading it, both on the first read, and again on...

    Demi-human Gods: Greyhawk vs FR

As far as I'm concerned, the demihuman dieties from those old sources were generic and assumed to exist in any campaign world in which they weren't specifically excluded or replaced by something else. I generally assumed them to be a part of Greyhawk, the Realms, Spelljammer, and Planescape...

BBEGs with really bad sounding nicknames from the PCs...

I'm not familiar with Black Company, what kind of nicknames do they use?

BBEGs with really bad sounding nicknames from the PCs...

At least they haven't yet started calling him Vorky the Loincloth. :) I haven't had it too bad in this department yet, the worst one so far being when I ran "Tears From Twilight Hollow" from Dungeon # 90 and they started refering to Mother Andress as Mother Undress.

    What happened to sigs?

Yeah, but when I noticed the problem, it was the first post I'd made on that particular thread. At any rate, there seems to be a sig on that post now so either I imagined the whole thing or it was just a hiccup.
