    Two Hit Monsters

No you can't. At the most childish, because this is my thread, and so my whims of "what a goblin should be" beat your opinion of what a goblin should be, so there. Nyeah. :D Please reread my post in your quote. Because goblin's ain't hobgoblins. Because I envision a goblin as being individually...

    Two Hit Monsters

By gum... I like! The kobold skirmisher 0 would have something like 19 hp and the skirmisher -1 would have 11 hp, right? A little high, but very tempting. You're a genius. If only they had printed them this way -- I'm playing through Keep on the Shadowfell and the unbridled tenacity of these...

    Two Hit Monsters

Because minions aren't a one-size-fits-all solution. Because Level 1 Adventurers are still a little special. Because there has to be something to separate demihumans from the darkness. Because getting your ass handed to you by 5 goblins isn't a scene I want to run: I want to run getting your ass...

    Two Hit Monsters

Hmm! Good solution. Not quite what I'm looking for, though -- I'm not sure what's wrong with a monsters with, say, 10 hp. Or 15 hp. I do like your solution, it just seems too fiddly. Mine results in remembering a monsters has 3 hp left, on the other hand, so clearly I'm not coming out as a pure...

    Two Hit Monsters

That's not better. They're not alone either. They still take 4 or so hits to put out. You can't even kill a goblin with a daily. Not unless you get *truly* lucky. I'm okay with this for most monsters, but not kobolds or goblins or other such minion-by-species monsters.

    Two Hit Monsters

I'm great with minions: a class of portable scenery makes a lot of sense to me. But there are some monsters which are relatively craven as I imagine them -- your bog-standard goblin or kobold, for instance, shouldn't be much of a menace against a stalwart human armed with a torch or a pitchfork...

You don't like the new edition? Tell me about it!

Full disclosure: I'm a f4nboy, and I have something like 5 PHBs and 2 giftsets on order (for my group and best friend and co-DM -- just call me Santa Claus :) ). So I have a viewpoint all my own on the issue. However, I have obtained several of these copies -- and I have a bunch of nitpicks...

Does hitting a milestone need more sizzle?

Well, not precisely. I guess I didn't make my point very clearly, let me try again. My point was that when you roll a twenty on a hit for your fighter, you will generally (well, I will generally) whoop for joy and begin lording it over the DM at how awesome your luck was. Also, you fighter hits...

Does hitting a milestone need more sizzle?

Derren, Regicide: I see what you're saying, I just think that you're both wrong :) While you say that Milestones break immersion, I'm not sure why they're any more immersion-breaking than rolling a 1 or a 20 on a hit -- which is completely metagame, and while it maps back to events in-game, is...

The Final Preview - Alignment (Is this really the first thread?)

chaotic: 1. A condition or place of great disorder or confusion. 2. A disorderly mass; a jumble: The desk was a chaos of papers and unopened letters. 3. often Chaos The disordered state of unformed matter and infinite space supposed in some cosmogonic views to have existed before the...

    Aria's HitPoint Modification

I myself plan on punting on the issue -- every appearance of "death" in the books will be replaced with "grievous wound", whose effect is to cause immediate passing out, followed by a month or two of bedrest and healing, preventing adventuring and most activity. Thus, a permanent wound will be...

    Aria's HitPoint Modification

By choice? The recipient of an attack may always choose to take the attack against his or her wounds instead of his or her endurance. Mooks always make this choice; most NPCs do not. The last hit (which drops an entity) is always against wounds and not endurance, or else they would not be...

Orcus Previews the 4e Core Rulebooks

Sometimes things actually are an incremental improvement over that which came before. 3e was great as a rulesystem, especially when contrasted with the story-heavy illusion of customizability that was 2e, or the hackfest that was 2e player's option. 3.5e was also great, and in many ways an...

    D&D 4E Dusk 4e - Oyasini (Halflings) and Eldarin

Even Google disagrees : http://www.google.com/search?q=Sha%27dar+Kai -- "Did you mean 'Shadar Kai'? " :p But yeah -- I didn't think that they came out of nowhere, I just like the framework you've set up more than the (implied, since we haven't really seen the details, even in that Dusk pdf I...

    Nature spirits

I agree. Spirits of the forest and field are totally fey for me. (it's the abs.) Even spirits of mountains and waterfalls, while they could be Elemental Chaos-type-elementals, still seem like a better fit for the spirit world Feywild. I think it's because of the themes I want the two distinct...

    Impressions from KotS

Still too soon to say -- I'd assume not relevant due to chosen foes, but no real idea. You snark 'cause you love, right? Unlike the detailed armor sundering rules in 3e, 2e, 1e... :) Heh. I didn't know that. I assume that's only in combat, though -- out of combat, long term helplessness leads...

    Five Alignments?

Tangential musing: If I had to come up with a new alignment system, I don't think I'd pick a 5 bucket system. I'd pick the same two poles that they did -- Good versus Evil as the default for the game, because you need holy powers and an alignment for Team Cartoonishly Evil (Undead, Devils, and...
