Lets design a Warlord for 5th edition

Like the suggestion: play a valor bard, don't use an instrument, pick the right spells and let them look non-magical. And role-play. Done. :D

    Worst Purchase Ever?

Yeah, the wilderness survival guide was soooo boring. Otherwise: all of 4e the only RPG books I ever sold.

D&D 5E (2014) Do Fighter Battlemaster Superiority dice feel magical?

Not magical - even quite "realistic". You have some tricks up your sleeve, but you can't pull these more than once on the same enemy. Okay, maybe twice - but never more than thrice! (my personal martial arts experience)

    AD&D 1E Mearls on AD&D 1E

4 things: 1) there was a pretty good DM 2) with a pretty good adventure 3) with pretty good (and hopefully pretty, oh, RPG nerds forget it...) co-players 4) he was PUI (Playing Under Influence of pretty good drugs) :D Honestly, I played 1e, the first time I ever played RPGs in 1986. Let me say...

Legendary Magic Items - your experiences?

Hello, I just browsed the DM's guide again and just for the fun of it was dreaming about my paladin having one (or more!) legendary items one day... (far away, if ever, now we are level 4). As I also DM, my "DM-side" thought: "I'd never gave this one out!" when looking at some items. For...

Help in getting a second sneak attack

Not a helpful answer, but... (there were some, I second the reaction / OA boost, or simply something like flame tongue or keen weapons) I don't get this, why then worry? It looks like the other players are optimized also by multi-classing, if he does not make use of that option he should not...

    So...am I evil??

I play since AD&D 1st edition. So 4e was the worst thing ever, drove us to Pathfinder. A few of us back again to 5e (parallel to PF campaigns). So what you did was for the greater good - from a point of view from a 4e despiser. Which is very limited and selfish. So I quote some people before...

    D&D 5E (2014) halforc paladin level 4 - ASI?

Yep, yesterday eveing I made the decision: shield master. More action, more fun! (compared to str+2)

    D&D 5E (2014) halforc paladin level 4 - ASI?

Thanks for the responses so far! I'll definitely stay sword'n'board, I found that the AC really helps. What I also found is that especially with this PC I have "bad d20 attack rolls" days to the extreme, so that +1 through str +2 is surely solid, but when rolling in the range of 3 to 5 that's...

    D&D 5E (2014) halforc paladin level 4 - ASI?

Hi everybody, I'm playing a halforc paladin of Tyr and we just reached level 4. Feats are allowed, which makes it really hard for me to decide - too many options! (see below) He's the typical sword & board, heavy armor, strength paladin with the following stats: Str 16 Dex 10 Con 14 Int 10...

D&D 5E (2014) Surprisingly Lethal Side Effect of Multiattack

Neither spreading a monsters attacks, nor hitting a downed PC mak much sense. Take your time as a DM, make attack after attack, bring down each PC one by one. Most of the time... Maybe some not-so-smart, or hungry, or bestial monster might go for the downed opponent. But then add some nice...

    D&D 5E (2014) Movement in combat

Yes, forgot about that. And with no limit to number of attacks, which I'm used from playing 3e/3e5/PF.

    D&D 5E (2014) Movement in combat

I'm actually missing the "5-foot step", the most common movement for melee'rs and spellcasters in older editions. Not so unrealistic, and easily doable in a 6-second turn, even from a realistic point of view. Let me strain again the MMA example... nobody (mostly) is "running" around the octagon...

    D&D 5E (2014) Movement in combat

Yep, think so, too. Those who need to get in and out (rogue, cunning action) can if they want, others can still move in combat, and get less punishment than in the previous editions.

    D&D 5E (2014) Movement in combat

100% agreed! Taking turns is the most unrealistic thing, the missing movement is a joke compared to this "gamist invention".

    D&D 5E (2014) Movement in combat

I'd say: imagination helps! If you just look at the grid and the see the miniatures standing there, well, looks too static. But ... 2 medium sized opponents each have a 5-foot square, so just imagine that in a real combat there would be movement in and around the squares. AND don't forget...

D&D 5E (2014) Why Good Rogues Should Not Use a Bow

Unfortunately I am only DMing 5e. How I ruled it lately: 1) shooting without losing stealth: impossible, unless special ability says so (feat, spell, ...) 2) leave cover, shoot, move back to cover, hide: only works if the rogue has more than one place to "re-appear", depends on terrain and...

D&D 5E (2014) Why Good Rogues Should Not Use a Bow

Okay. I meant hiding for ranged attacks. While everybody's watching?

    That's what I meant, too.

D&D 5E (2014) Why Good Rogues Should Not Use a Bow

Okay... :) 1) my mistake, I thought this only applies to melee, so there's only the -2 for firing into melee 2) the hiding in melee when everybody is watching is debatable 3) with dual wielding I don't mean the feat, just 2 short swords, but okay, that kills the bonus action...
