D&D 5E (2014) What if the D&D Core outsells the revised D&D Core?

I'll bite, and try to answer the original question. I think if I'm WotC, I'd be trying to analyze the data around WHY. My hunch at this point in time is that it would have little to do with a system change (as I don't think the mass consumer market cares if the book labeled D&D is 5e or revised...

D&D 5E (2024) New One D&D Playtest Shows Us The New Druid & Paladin

Sigh. Only chiming back in since what I am saying is being taken out of context. No, as my next sentence made clear. Not referring to different editions, just stating that they are different classes (such as the difference between a Paladin and a Cleric). 2014 Druid Class, 2024 Druid Class...

D&D 5E (2024) New One D&D Playtest Shows Us The New Druid & Paladin

I don't think it would confuse anyone, since they would know one was playing the 2014 version and the other the 2024 version. Why would a player with a paladin be confused about the warlocks abilities? At this point 2014 and 2024 count as different classes for the same game, that happen to share...

D&D 5E (2024) New One D&D Playtest Shows Us The New Druid & Paladin

The new druid solves almost everything I hated about the original 5e druid. There is still a bit of room in my opinion for a bit of tweaking, but this is probably about my favorite of the new class designs.

D&D 5E (2024) New One D&D Playtest Shows Us The New Druid & Paladin

I mean . . . so what if they are different? Players shouldn't worry about what is on each others sheets, they should focus on their character. They would have different abilities if one was a monk and one was a paladin, or if they had built using different druid subclasses, so why should anyone...

D&D 5E (2024) New One D&D Playtest Shows Us The New Druid & Paladin

i mean great, if spells work differently, fine. Different classes have different features they can use. And they have various resistances and ways to mitigate. It isn't my job as the DM to handle all of that, it is the player who watches their character sheet and lets me know what they do with...

D&D 5E (2024) New One D&D Playtest Shows Us The New Druid & Paladin

Exactly. This is player facing stuff, not DM stuff mostly. It is like picking different classes or subclasses. Why do I care if they play monk, artificer, 2014 druid, or 2024 druid, and use the abilities that go along with whichever they pick? If there is a spell question between the two...

D&D 5E (2024) New One D&D Playtest Shows Us The New Druid & Paladin

At least in the playtest so far, there is no problem using 2014 characters alongside the new characters and rules. What tables and DMs rule/allow doesn't really impact the compatibility of what is being offered.

D&D 5E (2024) New One D&D Playtest Shows Us The New Druid & Paladin

I'm sure it will replace it, but it doesn't change the fact they can play together. Just because a product is no longer sold (see Volo's Guide, superseded by new product) - but that doesn't mean the new product isn't part of 5e. Just because legacy content won't be the norm doesn't mean it isn't...

D&D 5E (2024) New One D&D Playtest Shows Us The New Druid & Paladin

It isn't rewriting, it is new content. Druid 2.0. But built in the same engine, and could play next to Druid 1.0. All part of the same system. Backwards compatible even. :)

D&D 5E (2024) New One D&D Playtest Shows Us The New Druid & Paladin

Because it is revisions. It still is the same engine running underneath, just tweaks to various elements to make it run better. Just like creating a new class like Artificer, or adding new subclasses, or changing how monsters work with magic, don't change the edition - which are all things that...

D&D 5E (2024) New One D&D Playtest Shows Us The New Druid & Paladin

I'd recommend watching the videos as well as reading the content. They go into a lot of the "why" behind the changes to the classes. For instance, druid is the least played class in 5e, largely because it is so complicated. As a general design goal, they want to move players away from needing...

D&D General How to reboot the Forgotten Realms (+)

I'd love DND Beyond to add an official Forgotten Realms history section, basing on whatever reboot or set of history they wish to use. Make it free to all users. Keep it up to date as new material is published. Make it easily searchable, cross-referencing and hyperlinked with location and npc...

Breaking into Keys from the Golden Vault: An In-Depth Review

I'll say that despite not having specific mechanics, the structure and set up of each heist clearly provides a framework for the DM to present the heist, and for players to approach it from a heist mindset. So while there aren't specific rules crafted to aid heist play, the structure...

The entire MM is 29.99 Monster Manual - Play on the Roll20 Virtual Tabletop A pack of 24 monster art is varied, but around $5.99 (random pack, as goblins are free, but these are a good example of what you might buy) 68 - More Monsters 4 - Play on the Roll20 Virtual Tabletop A pack of 24 animated...

Bob the World Builder Interviews Kyle Brink

I know lots of others have responded, but here is an actual VTT example that might inform the conversation. On Roll20, I have access to what is in the SRD. If I pull out a goblin onto the tabletop, it is going to generate a small round token with text that says "Goblin" on it. But I now have a...

Are the Million-dollar Kickstarters slowing down?

Exactly, well worth noting the impact is well beyond just delays.

Are the Million-dollar Kickstarters slowing down?

I'd also say the OGL situation impacted the entire industry and put a lot of plans on hold. Anyone looking to launch a 5e Kickstarter in January almost certainly delayed, so that will add some bumps in the data around this specific event.

Bob the World Builder Interviews Kyle Brink

I mean, he has answered the question multiple times. This isn’t all news, it is just added detail. His answer has been generally the same across all the interviews, but it has all been conversational narrative, not canned talking points. When you are not in a direct script, points often get made...

Yes, that is specifically the part that felt new, and filled in some question marks about the situation for me.
