    Burning nostalgic for Alternity

Cortex is very similar I agree, but I think the most unique aspect of Alternity is that you're trying to roll low with varying degrees of success having an impact. It's the RPG world's version of golf, only no walking and a lot more entertaining. I wouldn't mind seeing a variant of the system...

    Frank Frazetta RIP

I too am saddened by the news. I've been a fan since I first saw the Deathdealer on the cover of Molly Hatchet. He inspired many characters of mine. His art will live on, continuing to inspire many more fans. Per the ancient Greeks he has already achieved immortality and will not be forgotten...

    Burning nostalgic for Alternity

I’ve been reading through various retro clones lately and stumbled onto the Fastplay rules for Alternity. One of the few products I wish I hadn’t sold off because I didn’t have anyone to play with. It was a wonderful short lived system that had WotC not gotten the Star Wars license I think...

    It Ain't D&D Without...

Oops, you are correct. I was thinking of a blog discussing how the Thief techniquely should be considered the first D&D class since the other three were Chainmail originals that transferred over. Regardless as Shemeska points out, after 20+ years of being in the the books any class that's from...

    It Ain't D&D Without...

But it didn't start out that way, as the cleric was a Johny-come-lately, so excluding them wouldn't be a problem. If the intent is to create a new game similar in feel then the important thing is keeping the tone and not necessarily the classes. Granted they contribute, but variants can easily...

    It Ain't D&D Without...

As Green Ronin has proven in True20 and Dragon Age (actually the CRPG did it first) you can get by with three classes as long as the magic user class has access to healing magic, which makes sense to some degree. Actually several wizard themes in fantasy have access to healing.

Astonishing Swordsmen & Sorcerers of Hyperborea

    Dragon Fist physical copy

Wow, talk about a raise dead spell. Anyway, yeah it might be nice, but I think Chris really wants to keep DF as his own baby.

    Harvester RPG Inquiry

Has anyone picked up the new Harvester RPG from Troll Lord? If so what are your thoughts on it? The product description on Amazon lists it at 64 pages which seems small but given it's a game designed for kids could be complete as Fairy Tales wasn't big either. Since it uses the Siege system...

From Gencon Events - "All D&D games at Gen Con being placed with RPGA"

Having seen the open space in their area last year, I can see how some would see this as a ploy to confuse on lookers. If attendance is projected to be down then moving games related to your product into your area is smart business. Also if you've had problems with your clientele due to...

    Is Blizzards on to something?

And there in is part of the problem in that the games set an expectation of a set number of players, which in some areas isn't achievable. Perhaps what is needed is to devise a system where in a balance due to absence can be achieved. How I'm not sure, but a start might be distribution of...

    Is Blizzards on to something?

It's possible I misread the summary on Blizzards site for Cataclysm. I agree that for the most part that RPGs and CRPGs are different. There are a lot of mechanics presented in WoW that you could never achieve in D&D unless everyone was math majors to figure the details. In the same reguard...

    Is Blizzards on to something?

I recently got back into playing World of Warcraft and for those not in the know there is suppose to be an expansion coming out this year which will increase the level cap from 80 to 85, introduce new features, new races, and change the world. The name of the expansion is Cataclysm. Think...

When The PCs Don't Realize They're The Villains...

I think you should do Ladyhawke on them and have an eclipse happen and their alter egos seperate, joining the dragon, as he fights against them. Another approach that might work and cause some interesting roleplaying is to reveal that they were subject to an amnesia spell that only works part...

Pathfinder 1E Is PAIZO becoming the next Wizards?

Erik Mona and a few others have stated they wouldn't mind doing a sci-fi or other genre game and perhaps later on it might show up. I agree that it could be used as a launch to forcast possible changes to PF later on. I still think the biggest division of fan rejection comes from WotC failing...

Dragon Age RPG - How is It?

Having read both books and playing the CRPG I'd have to say the monsters are spot on. What people are missing is that the game is set up just like the CRPG in that characters from 1-5 could face any of those monsters in their adventure. I agree some balance would be nice, such as suggested...
