D&D General D&D has always been the gateway to other games.

I think it always was the gateway. After playing White Box and 1E, my friends and I played Chivalry & Sorcery, Runequest, Traveller and Bifrost among others. Always returned to D&D though.

Just a short story, not a story hour.

Enjoyed the story. Hopefully, you will continue to write stuff and enjoy the buzz from so doing.

D&D General A friend of mine has joined A 5E Dnd Group, has decided to play A Robin Hood Style character and wants to know what people think of his character

Breaking obviously evil laws to help others is an inherently Good act. The Robin Hood legend is an example of this. As a more modern example ( but avoiding current politics) a person such as Sophie Scholl (and the other White Rose activists) were clearly Good, because they broke the laws of a...

What are the greatest published adventures you've run?

I agree with you regards Red Hand of Doom, which I've ran as DM, and Dragonlords, which I've played in. I really enjoyed running Necropolis back in 3E days, and I think my players did too, but I'd just got back from the Valley of the Kings in Egypt, so I was in a bit of a buzz.

What are the greatest published adventures you've run?

The Night Below is awesome. I also loved running the Giants series (several times over many years), Lost Caverns of Tsojcanth and Rappan Athuk. Caverns of Thracia and Dark Tower are wonderful adventures by the supremely talented Jennell Jacquays. Being a bit grognardy, I love KotB. I’ve never...

    Dragon Reflections #66

Thanks once again for these awesome articles. I remember the Thieves’ Cant dictionary; never actually used it because I’m from the East End of London and would just use Cockney rhyming slang when I played a rogue! Less fondly, the open letter from Gygax was certainly a disappointing jolt to...

D&D General Describe your first character and your last character (and your weirdest)

First: Aelric, a Fighting Man in White Box Original, back in 1976. I was 13. He got to Level 3 and was killed by orcs. I still mourn his passing. Last: Well, I'm playing three simultaneously in three different games, so let's got for Arkaeus of Myrkona, the brutal, deadly warrior, with a heart...

Level Up (A5E) Scarlet Citadel for A5E

My lot, including @TheSword , just got a butt-kicking from the trollkin on level 3, narrowly avoiding a TPK by a full-fledged retreat.

D&D General Russ Nicholson passes, Rest in Peace.

Very sad news. His work helped make the Fiend Folio such a beautiful, quirky book from those early days of D&D.

TSR What TSR-era D&D material do you still put to use in your 5E games?

Great question. Personally, I have used loads as a DM and also love encountering old stuff as a player. My favourites include: Greyhawk as a setting The Giants series of modules Tsojcanth and Tharizdun adventures Anything by Jennel Jacquays, particularly Thracia and Dark Tower The Keep on the...

WFRP 4th Edition - How the game has evolved.

As a (very fortunate) player in @TheSword ’s Enemy Within campaign, I’d testify just how evocative and effective the 4E system is. I love the whole Old World feel and the ruleset seems to allow you to smell the sewers you explore, feel the cracks of your leather jerkin, taste the sour beer in...

D&D 5E (2014) Check Out Some (Minor) Monster Reveals From Bigby Presents: Glory of the Giants!

Wonder if my party will talk to the giant lynx, bearing in mind that the last monster they talked to ate half the party?

WFRP 4e The Enemy Within Campaign Book 1: Enemy in Shadows Session #14 Who Can You Trust?

Love this story. We played out the Odenhaller Contract in Altdorf before heading to Bogenhafen, but I’m really enjoying both the memories and the differences in your campaign. Keep the blunderbuss, fellow Sigmarites; it will save your lives!

    Magazines Dragon Reflections #65

Thank you @M.T. Black for these articles. They are well-written, evocative and nostalgic. Like @MNblockhead , I always get a boost when I see a new one drop into the messageboard.
