WotC Backs Down: Original OGL To Be Left Untouched; Whole 5E Rules Released as Creative Commons

The exact moment WOTC made this announcement, I didn’t actually notice because I was sat in a friend’s apartment, with four good mates, DM-ing a great 3PP adventure (shout out to Kobold Press and Scarlet Citadel) using 5e rules and playtesting the D&D1 stuff that’s been released already. We had...

D&D General Best Adventure Path (spanning 10+ levels) of all time?

Both Night Below and Return to the Tomb of Horrors for 2E were great fun to DM, and I think/hope my players enjoyed them too.

D&D General Best Adventure Path (spanning 10+ levels) of all time?

If I'm purely going for greatness, The Enemy Within for WFRP wins the "best ever" award, and I consider myself fortunate to be playing in it right now. Shout out to @TheSword as GM. If talking nostalgia, for me it will always be the Giants and Drow series from the late 70s/early 80s.

    Loving this story hour.

Level Up (A5E) Product Idea: Region Anthology

Really like this idea. A resource like this could spark as many campaigns as there are regions in it; could even allow an aspect of shared continuity in multi-DM groups, with each DM running their game in a different setting from the book. If the regions are anything like the depth and richness...

D&D 5E (2014) Meanwhile - new DMs are having fun! How was your very first session as a GM/DM?

My 13 year old grandson is about to run his first campaign (Dragon of Icespire Peak) for his 9 year old sister, my wife and myself. I’m sure he'll make a better job of it than I did back in c.1977 when Celetan the Wizard, Valon the Priest and Johan the Fighter entered the Dungeon of the...

OD&D A 15 year old Baron had A 17 month old half Sister that despite being his half sister wasn't of noble birth, yet he provided for her, why?

William the Conqueror was born illegitimate from a relationship between his father, Robert, Duke of Normandy, with Herleva, daughter of a tanner in Falaise. Tanner was a particularly low status job, due to the smell of the process. Herleva must have been quite a woman, as she went on to marry...

D&D 5E (2014) Something to consider about Grognards and the OGL...

Played D&D since 1976 and still playing it now. It matters little to me whether I’m playing the TSR editions ( though never NuTSR!), WOTC, Pathfinder, Kobold Press, Level Up: in all cases, I’m playing D&D. Always will be. I’m invested in the spirit of the game, in its history and in all the...

The Mask of Mask (updated 01/21/2023)

Brilliant action scene and the art is beautiful. Dante is a wonderful name for a little dragon; even the smallest fires can become an Inferno!

    D&D 5E (2014) Sticking with D&D?

I will stick with D&D, though I also play Level Up and WFRP, and will stick with those too. I’m currently running Scarlet Citadel ( Kobold Press) and am likely to stay a lot closer to 3PP products than WOTC stuff. My next campaign will either be homebrew or Goodman’s dark Tower. It seems WOTC...

D&D General Follow on from the last thread about a roll that resulted in The Earls Vassals refusing to let his daughter marry his liege's son

To the best of my knowledge (which might well be wrong), the Normans introduced the word “county” as an administration tool after 1066, though these new counties were actually the same as the old Saxon shires in terms of geography. Sheriff was, as you say, from shire-reeve. The use of counties...

D&D General Follow on from the last thread about a roll that resulted in The Earls Vassals refusing to let his daughter marry his liege's son

@Omand is totally correct. By all means, have the title "Earless" in your campaign if you want, but it was never in use in medieval England. Earl was an Anglo-Saxon title, deriving from the Norse word "Jarl" and usually spelt "Eorl" until 1066. The Norman equivalent was "Comte", which gave rise...

D&D General Surely A Domain of 6 Very Large Baronies would have a bigger size class then Small Earldom and the ruler have a higher title then minor Earl

These vassal barons that only indirectly answer to the Earl (not the ones who directly answer of course); surely one of them could marry the poor girl?

I hope WOTC don’t ban these random tables your mate makes, as part of their new OGL policy.
