D&D General What Bits of History Inspire Your Homebrew Setting?

I wrote my undergraduate dissertation on the Norman Conquest period, and have retained an affection for that era, which I often apply to my campaigns. subsequent academic work on the Cold War and on contemporary Global Politics has been used rather less!

    D&D 5E (2024) 13 Attacks a Round the Most You Can Get?

I actually play and enjoy D&D 2024. It was a light-hearted comment. Sorry if it offended you.

D&D General Do you play in person or online?

Both. We have a monthly in-person weekend, with @TheSword and myself sharing DM duties, so we both get chance to play as well. We also have a fortnightly Warhammer RPG game, with three of the same players and one addition (who has just gone all John Wick after their small but vicious dog was...

    White Dwarf Reflections #13

The Houri class was certainly "interesting", though my view of it then (as a 16 year old rugby playing schoolboy) was less mature than I am now. I do remember the little joke of the backstory featuring an unfortunate rogue called Thaddeus Leaf, and wondering if the wordplay joke translated...

D&D General Favorite Iconic D&D Metropolis

I’m old enough to remember City State of the Invincible Overlord and City State of the World Emperor, from back in 1E days. I used the former as a DM and walked the mean alleys of the latter as a player.

It's GM's Day! Tell us about your first GM!

Dave was a year above Phil and myself in school, back in 1977. He'd got hold of a new game from the USA, called Dungeons and Dragons, so we rolled up two characters. I played a fighter called Aelric and Phil played a mage called Amroth. It was great (until we were killed by orcs after reaching...

Give the Worg a sibling, called to bring aid by a particular howl that echoes around the forest one night (ideally with a full moon) and the howl is answered................

D&D General Why grognards still matter

Grandmaster Grognard Guy reporting for duty: Back then: Played Original and 1E with schoolfriends, played rugby, listened to The Clash, green hair in spikes, had no money Now: Play 5E and Level Up face-to-face and online, watch rugby, still listen to the Clash, grey hair, economically...

    White Dwarf Reflections #8

Great edition with many fond memories. IIRC, Minifigs produced a range of models based on Valley of the Four Winds, and I think Citadel produced a Man Beast model.

Not that I know of. It had a really cool monster called the Sussurus, which was especially effective against undead.

How many were abused due to their love of D&D, RPGs, and related items when they were young?

The Satanic Panic was never a thing in the UK anyway, and my mum was too busy partying to worry about my hobby. In school, rather like @Endie , I played in the 1st XV rugby team, so bullying wasn’t a thing either. That said, I hope I also protected other “nerd hobby” students from would-be bullies.

WFRP 4e The Enemy Within Campaign Book 1: Enemy in Shadows Session #14 Who Can You Trust?

Love this campaign, and your story of it. This brings back great memories! Currently our group is negotiating the Horned Rat section, around the scary Brass Keep. Your party has many hours of terror, suffering and great gaming ahead.
