    D&D 5E (2014) Forge of Fury TFTYP?

I absolutely love Forge of Fury. The chasm bridge, the ogre, the old forge, the roper, the black dragon. It’s got almost every classic trope of “dwarven ruins” and in style! I’ve run it three times, most recently for my wife and two grandkids, who adored it. My only regret is that I’ve never...

What adventure module have you pillaged the most without using the main plot?

I’ve used the Keep from KotB several times as a starting base for various adventures, always expanding on (and naming!) the various inhabitants. As a teenager, I made good use of the old JG product, Frontier Forts of Kelnore, to create huge numbers of encounters using the ruined fort map. It...

Level Up (A5E) Sunset Riders Fantasy Western! (Campaign Setting thoughts)

Two folk-hero type NPCs to act as aids to PCs, possibly asking them to undertake perilous missions, or otherwise aiding for goodly purposes: Tammy Sawyer; growing up on the banks of the Old Man River, with only her aunt Polina as a career, Tammy was always a wild one. Trouble either followed...

Level Up (A5E) Sunset Riders Fantasy Western! (Campaign Setting thoughts)

New monster(s): Railboss Lich (unique) aka Old Spiker In the earliest days of railroad building, no boss was as rapacious, greedy, cruel and brutal as Cassius Johannes. He was a man as strong and violent as he was vicious, and he would often beat his workers, sometimes to death, for the tiniest...

D&D General JMISBEST's questions. Most of them about campaign ideas that either he or A GM he knows has and wants to know what people think

What’s his name? What about personality, motivations, friendships, etc. These all.matter too IMO.

D&D 5E (2014) Where's the Villain? and other musings. Why some published campaigns are great and some aren't (Spoiler alerts)

My tuppence worth: Great published adventures do need at least one great villain, but ideally more. This can be the “end boss” type of villain but it doesn’t have to be. Ideally, there should be level-appropriate villains to “hate” as characters progress through the campaign, as well as NPCs to...

    D&D General Fifty Years

Happy Birthday! I was 13 in 1976 and Dave, a lad from the year above had got the white boxed set for his birthday. Dave ran myself and a friend, Phil, through a dungeon he had designed. I played a fighter called Aelric, Phil played a magic-user called Amroth. We were hooked straight away...

D&D General Why Isn't There a D&D Table Top Miniatures War Game?

Although it often criticised, there was the Swords & Spells rulebook. My friends and I played out many battles in the very late 1970s and early 80s, combining all our old Ral Partha, Citadel, Asgard and other miniatures to fight battles. Great memories.

Level Up (A5E) Sunset Riders Fantasy Western! (Campaign Setting thoughts)

Love the images! We’ve talked on Discord, but I’m reading this thread now and a couple of extra things spring to mind: A sinister “not-Pinkerton” agency, perhaps working for one of the robber baron-Dragons, with ears and agents everywhere, foiling the PCs and espousing wickedness. Country and...

D&D General D&D Icons of the Realms: 50th Anniversary' Booster Set, July 2024

Much as @TheSword is one of my best friends, and a long term gaming buddy, brilliant DM and superb player, he is, of course, completely wrong here! Long live D&D nostalgia!

Warlock! The Enemy Within (Traitor's Edition)

Superb. The Warhammer Old World is like The Wire or True Detective (series 1) made fantasy.

D&D General "I'd like to run (or play in) an all ___________ campaign." (+)

I don’t remember all the details, but back in the mid 1980s, the D&D Competition at one of the UK GenCons featured an all half-orc party. We had been shrunk to tiny size by a wizard and dispatched into his drainage system to retrieve a lost magic ring. I’d been partying a bit the night before...

Warlock! The Enemy Within (Traitor's Edition)

Loving this. I’m currently playing in the awesome Enemy Within campaign ( using WFRP rules) and this is bringing back great memories of the early part of the story.

D&D General The most played D&D Adventure of all time

I’d go for either Keep on the Borderlands or Phandelver, maybe with Steading of the Hill Giant Chief in third place?

TSR The Full & Glorious History of NuTSR

Justin LaNasa isn’t fit to lick Jennell Jacquays’ boots, both in terms of contribution to gaming and in terms of humanity and decency.

D&D General Help: What to do with physical books?

As a retired high school principal, I’d suggest contacting your local high school to see if they have a gaming group. If they do, a donation of books and/or minis would certainly be welcomed, especially as times are hard financially for so many. I realise I’m talking from a UK perspective where...

    D&D General One Less Warlock

@dave2008 Just to keep you updated. My face-to-face group played Friday night ( Scarlet Citadel by KP if you’re familiar). I’ve placed Consitium as a prisoner of the Derro on Level 4, who has been keeping the other prisoners alive ( including the paladin’s lover, who was captured in her...

D&D General "I'd like to run (or play in) an all ___________ campaign." (+)

My gaming group discussed this idea tonight and speculation coalesced around an all bard campaign in Forgotten Realms with a party called Waterdeep Purple, or an all half-orc bard campaign, with the party called Orcestra. I’ll see myself out......

D&D General Industry Veteran Jennell Jaquays Passes

Such sad news. Jennell was the greatest dungeon designer ever IMO and was a giant of this hobby, but also a wonderful human being and a fantastic leader of transgender rights, as well as basic dignity and kindness. Rest in Peace. Rest in Power.
