I’m Black, and a lot of people on message boards have opinions on how I should feel about this topic.
I frankly find replacing “race” with “species” to be deeply problematic and troubling. But to point this out makes people feel uncomfortable.
For a hit piece it is far more balanced and even tempered than a good deal of writing by supposed fans. Remarkable that a thoughtful article like this can be denounced simply because it makes some people uncomfortable.
Warhammer 4th edition, Dolemwood, the new Runequest, anything that Bryan Syme touches, Symbaroum. There have been really neat DCC covers/interior art lately.
Recently: Monster Overhaul by Skerples, Midgard/Southlands Campaign Setting by Kobold, Mothership’s Warden Operation Manuel, Goodman Games’ The Dungeon Alphabet by Michael Curtis.
All these resources are excellent and I highly recommend them to you.
Hey, just a quick note of thanks. I read your blog post, and I was taken by the grace and thoughtful reflection with which it was written. I appreciate it.
Weird, as I play as half-elves in every game I play because I’m mixed race and I like feeling represented in the games I play. The idea that nobody plays them is just you presenting your own bias as truth, and it is incredibly offensive to me.
I really don’t see the need to cheer on a billion dollar company, nor the moral necessity to wish them success. I do hope 5.5 fails financially because Hasbro is an awful company, and I don’t feel bad about saying that.
I will support my hobby by spending my money supporting smaller projects...
lol chill dude, I’m not killing the “fandom” by refusing to bow down and lick Hasbro’s boot. As a consumer, I’m choosing to spend my money elsewhere and I’m encouraging others to do likewise.
