    Tieflings of Melnibone

Pure self-interest, unrestrained by any sort of concern for anyone else, to the point where you keep slaves, surgically tune them to a specific note, and then make music by goading them to squeal in pain? That's not neutral.

    Tieflings of Melnibone

I didn't mind. :) It's interesting, and really somewhat necessary for Moorcock, since he gets so convoluted sometimes that even a somewhat informed person can still have a pretty distorted image.

Should movement be a skill? (integrating climb, jump..combo's)

Just as a side comment: Star Wars actually keeps Climb and Jump separate, even though it combines the very attractive Tumble with Balance and Escape Artist into Acrobatics. I thought that was pretty strange, but we're still too new to the game to say if it perhaps makes more sense in play.

    Mike Mearls comments on design

No, but if you learn to manipulate and enhance digital photos, you might very well be called a Photoshop expert... even if you learned on and use some other application.

    Mike Mearls comments on design

From what we know of the class' abilities, a member-of-the-class-WotC-calls-warlord could easily be a guy with no convictions other than that his four allies and himself need to win whatever fight they're currently in, and that they'll be doing it through teamwork and certainly not by him...

It's like the 'new' World of Darkness was for me.

I feel much like this. At worst, if I hate 4E, I'll keep playing 3E, which is, despite all its flaws, a pretty awesome game. Of course, the 3E player base will shrink and they won't be publishing new 3E books, but I have a pretty steady group and there's honestly little that I cannot do with...

So, what do you want to play?

I'll probably want something multiclassed. Fighter/wizard, perhaps and eladrin? Perhaps a tiefling fighter/warlock? All the talk about tieflings of Melnibone suddenly got me interested in warlocks; I hope they're not as locked into the ranged attacker role as they are in 3E.

No tiefling? Or no 1st-level tiefling?

    Tieflings of Melnibone

I've only recently gotten the chance to browse through Dawnforge and thought it looked incredibly similar to what we've heard about 4E too. That is what D&D calls Evil. It's just that in the books, the axes aren't completely independent, but correlated so that unchecked dominance of either...

    Tieflings of Melnibone

I'm not familiar with the RPG. This is what Wikipedia has to say, referencing the books, not the RPG. In both versions, accepting the patronage of Chaos is pretty much the defining moment that turns a proto-Melnibonean race into the Melniboneans of the books.

So, eladrin's can teleport around? ..nail...coffin...rogue already obsolete?

Hopefully, it works just like if you use a SWSE Force power outside a combat encounter: you use it up, and after 1 minute (or 5 minutes, or 5 rounds, or whatever) it comes back.

    Tieflings of Melnibone

Tieflings are creepy near-humans from an ancient empire that trafficked with demons. Melniboneans are creepy near-humans from an ancient empire that trafficked with demons. The specifics are different (for example, the semantics of "demon" or "devil" aren't the same between settings), but the...

And in this, he's atypical. Melniboneans as a whole are certainly a people aligned with Chaos.

    Tieflings of Melnibone

Melniboneans are servants of Chaos, aren't they?

Power Level of Characters Will Decline

Do you have a source for this? I seem to remember reading that 1-20 in 4E will roughly correspond to 1-20 in 3E, with 21-30 in 4E being equivalent to 3E Epic, only functional.

    Give me choices!

Oh, come on. Greatest in warfare? Greatest in crafts? Proudest? Need room to quarrel in? There are similarities (jewelers, good with words), but they are little more than coincidental. Tolkien didn't switch gnomes for Noldor, he just changed the name and kept the same concept, and that...

    Give me choices!

Indeed. They should've chucked out the ninja halflings (I'm sorry, Lidda, we love you, but still) and kept the burrowing trickster gnomes.

    Just a couple of questions

    Like Dwarves?

Dammit, Warlord, Warlock, Tiefling, and Dragonborn are growing on me.

WotC should hire Shortman into marketing. ;)

    Give me choices!

I certainly hope (and expect) that monsters as launch platforms won't be required, and that this is just being emphasized because it's a change from the current model. I hope the cleric will be able to heal the fighter by/while smacking the monster, but also heal the fighter even better if...
