You're apologizing in advance for irreverent humour? Isn't that a lot like doing-something-Eric's-grandma-doesn't-want-to-hear-about for virginity? Now that's quality humour!

D&D 3.x A list of 3e problems and how they were tackled in PF

A bonus to a single stat is CL 8th, so DC 13. Two stats is CL 12th, DC 17. Three is CL 16th, DC 21. I'm thinking a 6th-level wizard could hit DC 13 on Spellcraft without trying too hard (Int 17, 6 ranks, +3 for class skill). At 8th, the same wizard can hit DC 17 (Int 21 including the +2 from...

D&D 3.x A list of 3e problems and how they were tackled in PF

Pathfinder's (headband of Int +2 and Wis +2) is priced at (headband of Int +2) x 100% + (headband of Wis +2) x 150%, just like in 3.5. Actually, if you count 3.5's combining effects guidelines as a part of the rules, you'd have more to work with under 3.5. It's cheaper to get (Int +2 + neat...

D&D 3.x A list of 3e problems and how they were tackled in PF

What is used as a measure of power in this rigorous statistical analysis? Damage output per round? Survivability? Odds of defeating monsters in combat? I haven't done the numbers, but my experience/feeling is that the druid might be better at fighting monsters, but he's significantly weaker at...

D&D 3.x A list of 3e problems and how they were tackled in PF

How have they limited them? The bonuses to all six ability scores are there, at the exact same prices as in 3.5. Or are you referring to the fact that it's more costly to get a bonus to two or three ability scores from the same category (physical/mental), since they must be on the same item?

Convincing a 4e group to try Pathfinder

But they introduced new ones: the 20th-level bard ability, a performance to die for; the 20th-level rogue ability, which is much like the assassin's death attack; the 20th-level ranger ability, which kill favored enemies. Sure, 20th-level, so they won't get that much spotlight time, but it...

    TRAILBLAZER - PDF Release - Discussion/Questions/Errata

I know! :D I got into 3E after falling in love with Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon and seeing the blade dancer in 3E Oriental Adventures, and I've been tinkering with the concept on and off again for all these years, since it's always somewhere on the edge of what 3E covers. The fact that...

    TRAILBLAZER - PDF Release - Discussion/Questions/Errata

Yes, I sort of glossed over the option to both regain the x/rest resources and keep (i.e. recast) the buffs. There's a cost, but it's not unmanageably high. The diametrically opposed mindsets I was talking about were "balance problems? a real roleplayer doesn't care about balance because he...

    TRAILBLAZER - PDF Release - Discussion/Questions/Errata

I'm very surprised at this answer, since it's the answer often used to defend any balance problem with any game, and most of Trailblazer seems to written with the diametrically opposed mindset. Ultimately, as you say, a difference of 1 point of damage is almost negligible, but it's not as if...

    TRAILBLAZER - PDF Release - Discussion/Questions/Errata

My mistake. What I wanted to say is that the second bolded second makes it sound like it's "roll twice, pick better" when it's actually "reroll, use the second roll" (which means that you might end up with a lower result). But it doesn't really matter, since you're only rerolling when you know...

    TRAILBLAZER - PDF Release - Discussion/Questions/Errata

Page 32 lists 7th- and 8th-level bard spells. If the rest of the spell list (0-6th is the same as in 3.5), these lists repeat some spells already found on the bard list at lower levels: greater scrying, mass charm monster, irresistible dance. It's too limited to be an intentional free taste of...

    TRAILBLAZER - PDF Release - Discussion/Questions/Errata

The two bolded sections seem contradictory to me. I'm assuming that the much stronger phrasing means the first one is correct, but to avoid confusion, the wording on the second one should be different, I think.

    TRAILBLAZER - PDF Release - Discussion/Questions/Errata

Maybe it wasn't entirely clear in my post, but I have no problem with monks wielding spears (and other weapons; in fact, I've been looking for ways to make a 3E swordsman monk since before I started playing 3E :D). What I don't want is monks never wielding quarterstaves, since spears are simply...

    TRAILBLAZER - PDF Release - Discussion/Questions/Errata

How come the long spear is an automatic monk weapon? I don't mind the idea of some monks using spears and I love that Weapon Kata lets you use any weapon if you care to invest in it, but I'm not sure that monks with quarterstaves should be much rarer than monks with long spears, and I expect...

    TRAILBLAZER - PDF Release - Discussion/Questions/Errata

Just jumping on the opportunity to get some freebie additional sidebars. ;) One of the uses of the data in the table that immediately came to mind where the dragon CRs would be off is creating new monsters: much like in 4E, if I need a monster of a given difficulty, it'd be nice to just go to...

    TRAILBLAZER - PDF Release - Discussion/Questions/Errata

Why are the the dragon CRs multiplied for the purposes of your monster statistics? It's mostly common knowledge that dragons are intentionally underestimated, so some adjustment is necessary, but I would have expected an addition. Your calculations imply that higher-CR dragons are more...

    TRAILBLAZER - PDF Release - Discussion/Questions/Errata

    P. 18, the example with the hill giant gaining the class features of a 7th-level barbarian: it says he ends up with greater rage. Should that be rage? In addition, why do iterative attacks come into the calculation? Giving the hill giant a barbarian's features doesn't change his iteratives. Or...

    Trailblazer now available!

Multiplying the hit points takes care of hp damage, but won't the solo monster will still go down just as fast to effects that circumvent hp? Or are action points enough to take care of that?
