D&D 5E (2014) Do you find Fantasy Grounds just too much of an investment?

You can use it offline if you like as a reference. In many ways its better than a pdf typically is as everything hyperlinked logically together. Still have to choose between book, FG or both. The only way I could a combo deal being done is if you can purchase both from the same source much like...

SCAG Now On FANTASY GROUNDS VTT

A couple of our guys run it on their Macs using Wine. Seems to run without any problems except for the fact that you can't change the location for campaign saving to standard folders. We tend to save our campaigns to OneDrive or Dropbox and this doesn't seem to work on the Mac. Unity should fix...

    D&D 5E (2014) EK vs Battlemaster/Abjurer

It can be tricky to hold the line with just the single opportunity attack like you say. Still, it is something, along with trying your best to get in the line of missile attacks to provide some cover. However another thing you need to do really is to provide a target to the enemies to tempt them...

Greenflame Blade Cantrip from SCAG, Courtesy of EXTRA LIFE

It really comes down to two weapon fighting. If you take a rogue, using a shortsword with a free hand but a dagger ready in case the main attack misses, and then take the same rogue using Green Flame Blade they do pretty much the same damage vs an equal level opponent. The downside for the TWF...

Yes you can sneak attack with it. You do not have to keep sneak attacks available for opportunity attacks as you can already sneak using one even if you have used sneak during your own turn. Two weapon fighting is out though, which is the real risk as you have nothing as cover for a miss.

    D&D 5E (2014) EK vs Battlemaster/Abjurer

This is exactly what can happen if you use shield or absorb elements too. Both of those use your reaction which means the monsters can flood past the front line. I am playing a fighter/mage and this is typically what happens as soon as shield goes up

New SCAG Info: Someone Got The Book

We tend to announce the AC that the monster hits so as a player you know if using shield will work or not. We also often play using fantasy grounds and that automatically tells you the AC that the monster hits. We may well have different priorities of what we want in a character option but I...

New SCAG Info: Someone Got The Book

The point is that having a decent AC in combat isn't that important if your hit points are poor. You need both. And with that array the bladesingers AC will be 18 at best and the hit points will be average to low for a melee character. Enough for a melee support character which is how we should...

New SCAG Info: Someone Got The Book

So this 3rd level character has a Dex of 18 and Int of 18 (or maybe Dex 16 and Int 20)? And they cast mage armour when needed too which might be 1-2 slots per day. Good stat rolling does make for a powerful character I agree. A typical bladesinger at 3rd level is far more likely to be AC 19...

New SCAG Info: Someone Got The Book

No, you only get to use your two melee attacks like any other character when you take the attack action. So its an alternative to casting a spell or cantrip in any given round. A nice alternative, but as you level up less and less useful. There is a small damage bump at higher levels to each of...

New SCAG Info: Someone Got The Book

I think you are over-reacting a bit. AC is likely to be lower than a fighter or paladin who typically have in the region of AC18 to 21 over the first 10 levels. If we assume that the blade singer casts mage armour and starts with a good INT and DEX (16 in each) then they might have AC19 to 21...

D&D 5E (2014) How do I make a challenging investigation for a high level cleric?

To add a few others in. I tend to look for ways that a spell caster can help with information from their spells without getting an instant answer. Scrying will allow the cleric to see the NPC's current surroundings with no range limit. Maybe a good way to provide hints but no full answer...

New SCAG Info: Someone Got The Book

It doesn't say so up to the DM. The list of gods is not complete, for example Tiamat is missing as are all of the Mulhorand dieties (they are referred to as demigods). Moander is a dead god though so its up to you to decide if priests can still get divine magic from him. Did he grant spells in...

New SCAG Info: Someone Got The Book

Well you get quite a bit of detail on Longsaddle, Yartar and Waterdeep which are near (but not that near). It best use is probably during character creation as the players can get a good amount of information on possible homelands which tie nicely into the localised backgrounds. Then of course...

New SCAG Info: Someone Got The Book

I can't see it mentioned. It falls outside of the detailed areas of the Sword Coast. I quick FR wiki search shows the different spelling appears earlier too, in a novel at least

Its medium armour pretty much identical to scale mail. Only battleragers can use the spikes, although i'd probably allow it to be used as a normal melee weapon if someone wanted to. Only does 1d4 damage though

Take A Look At The DUERGAR From SCAG

It isn't mentioned in 2nd editions Lands of Intrigue which covers the ancient dwarf empire of Shanatar in a lot of detail. It might be in Drizzt Do'urdens guide to the underdark but I don't have that one. By the 3e era though its written as the history of clan Barakuir. So definitely a FR...

New SCAG Info: Someone Got The Book

I would quite like a small background piece, maybe a dragon article at some point, to explain 'what really happened'. I don't hold out much hope. I am just about ok with demon lords and princes of elemental evil making an appearance but it is getting a bit too much. Lets hope for a more down to...

New SCAG Info: Someone Got The Book

We didn't find out at all. A character in one of the novels believed this to be the case. I have read the Sundering novels where this was spoken about and its simply given as a characters opinion. The various authors have stated a number of times that what their characters say in novels is not...
