Is there a distinction between Bluffing and Lying?

What if you're telling the truth, and the other person doesn't initially believe you?

Converting GRE Scores to D&D Intelligence

I think you need a correlation coefficient. If I remember correctly, the deviations are added something like sqrt(a^2 + 2rab + b^2). r is the correlation coefficient. If they are completely independent then you get sqrt(a^2 + b^2). If they are completely positively correlated, you get a+b, and...

    Poisons in D&D

I would suggest that a character (or npc) can make a heal check to determine what kind of poison has been used. You could either use the original save dc for the poison, or just make up one for a specific poison. The second option is probably better, as it is likely that a very deadly poison...

First time running a high-powered campaign...

Greatly vary the power of the enemies they are facing. That way, it really will feel epic when they kill a big bad guy. 150hp kobolds will kill that.

    Poisons in D&D

I actually recommend that you house rule a lot of poisons. In D&D, poisons all have the same onset time. In real life, they don't. Also, in D&D, if a save is made, nothing happens. It would be much more entertaining if an especially lethal poison still at least made the victim very nauseous on a...

Converting GRE Scores to D&D Intelligence

Well... merriam webster gives me.. Intelligence: the ability to learn or understand or to deal with new or trying situations I think the best way to test this is pattern completion problems. Any verbal or mathematical test is inherently flawed.

Who's the greatest specialist of them all?

With just the PHB.... Abjuration. 1: Shield 2: Protection from Arrows 3: Dispel Magic 4: Stoneskin (Anyone else find it odd that this is not transmutation?) 5: Private Sanctum 6: All useful 7: Spell Turning 8: Prismatic Wall 9: All useful I could live with those as my extra spells. As for...

    Orb of Vengeance

To be fair, you can't just divide by 7 for once a week. Why? because you could make seven of them and do it 7 times in one day! That's added flexibility.

    Dragon Mount feat?

Dragons have a preeety high ECL though. Large dragons: Juvenile Green: ECL 20. Very Young Red: ECL 15. Young Red: ECL 19. Very Young Gold: ECL 16. Young Gold: ECL 20. If you're playing a small character, I don't care about you.

    Do you run multiple PCs?

I've been considering doing this in my next campaign... but not multiple pc's at the same time... I'm thinking more along the lines of each person gets two characters, and one stays in the keep. They can switch out between adventures though - boredom or necessity.

Core Religion Survivor - Round Nine

I've actually begun checking before voting to see if she is in trouble. If she's on the chopping block I'll start voting for whoever she's up against, instead of who I hate the most. Such is the devotion to the Ruby Goddess. :P

    Wizard Or Sorc.

I don't see where you would get this at all. It implies that wizards are better at memorizing battlefield control spells, and sorcerers are better at learning blast spells. When I build a sorcerer, I aim for one spell with a fort save, one with a will save, and one with a reflex save for each...

    Mooks - a good idea?

I actually don't see a problem with letting the pc's annihilate the mooks with little difficulty. That's pretty much what they are there for. What kind of item/power lets you just deal 5 damage to everything next to you as you move anyways? Here's the sort of situations I'm looking at with 1...

    Fiendish Codex III: Yugoloths poll

I like how everyone in here is pretty much assuming that WotC is going to make it. I really hope that someone from WotC takes note of the tremendous support. I've always liked the lower planar creatures, and the yugoloths have always been my favorite. I also think it is appropriate to devote...

Core Religion Survivor - Round Eight (The Final Nine!)

Well, I was right about the nerull-hating really starting up after erythnul got booted. Let's see if the prediction about Hextor-Hate following closely on heironius' heels is true as well.

    Mook CR?

Well, I'm more inclined to think that a single mook would likely be around a CR 1/4 than CR 1. As far as CR 1's not being a concern though... isn't there a doubling rule? Like... 16 CR 1 creatures would constituted a CR 9 encounter? x2 4 times -> +2CR 4 times.

    Mook CR?

This goes along with a thread I made in the general rpg forum. Basically, the idea is that I only stat out 'bosses' and 'minibosses'. The majority of foes will be mooks with 1 hp, +0 on all saves, and no damage bonus on attacks. I might give them a higher attack bonus at later levels just so...

    Mooks - a good idea?

So, here I am, contemplating the next time I dm. I think I might want to try something new - mooks! Basically, the idea is that I only stat out 'bosses' and 'minibosses'. The majority of foes will be mooks with 1 hp, +0 on all saves, and no damage bonus on attacks. I might give them a higher...

I stood under a scale model of the Moa. I'm 6'6 and it's beak was well above my head. I wish I could have seen one. (They are extinct). Other kiwi information... The males are the ones who guard the nest. They aren't very good at it though. At night, they wake up, get hungry, and go out to get...
