Ars Magica To Get A New Edition

David Chart, the Ars Magica developer, has just stated that he thinks a Starter Set is needed for the game, where a lot of the simplification spoken about above could happen. He regards it as a separate item to the Definitive edition though. Hopefully, then, we will see both.

Ars Magica To Get A New Edition

Actually, I disagree. The original game (1987) only had an implied setting and didn’t include any setting detail about Mythic Europe. It only became the default setting from 2nd edition onwards and it was constructed over years through supplements. It was only by the time of the third edition...

Ars Magica To Get A New Edition

Ars Magica uses a D10 roll for everything. It can be rolled as a simple die, reading the numbers 1-10 (0 counts as 10), or a ‘stress' die which is read 0-9. When rolling a Stress die, a 1 allows for a double die roll to be added to the score, but rolling a 0 counts as ‘0’ with a potential...

Ars Magica To Get A New Edition

Yes. The third edition of Ars Magica, published by White Wolf in 1992, was directly tied to the World of Darkness as the ‘history’ of the setting. House Tremere became a Vampire Clan while the Order of Hermes and Order of Reason were both linked together also. However, many fans felt that this...

Ars Magica To Get A New Edition

Actual most anticipated RPG release of the year award for me! Ars Magica is an all time classic. Celebrated as part of the 100 Best Hobby Games of all time and winner of copious awards, this is the game that did Harry Potter before Harry Potter was even a thing and married it to the most...

Vote For The Most Anticipated RPG of 2024!

Sadly, it is too late to be included in this list, I guess, but Atlas Games just made their announcement of this: https://atlas-games.com/news/post?s=2024-01-12-anno-magica-2024 Along with Pendragon and Pioneer, it’s a personal choice for 2024 anticipation.

Ben Riggs: 'The Golden Age of TTRPGs is Dead'

Maybe your experience is different to mine but there were times in the early 1990s especially where it became pretty difficult to find other gamers. Prior to that, in the 1980s, we had to deal with all the stigma from people believing it to be satanic. So, no, I disagree - the hobby has had its...

Ben Riggs: 'The Golden Age of TTRPGs is Dead'

I’m old enough to remember several ups and downs in the RPG hobby and sometimes it does reflection bad decisions, other times just factors out of business people’s control. Market saturation can also play its part too - success can lead to problems in itself. Maybe we are heading for a slight...

Vote For The Most Anticipated RPG of 2024!

Pre-orders. The fulfilment is still pending arrival from the printer apparently. Never saw any rule about tabletop requirements. Anyway, I’ve voted for two with a third vote if Laws of the Night ever goes up. (y)

Vote For The Most Anticipated RPG of 2024!

You didn’t include Laws of the Night V5. It is not the same game as Vampire: The Masquerade - produced by a different company (By Night Studios) with a different system - but it fulfils all the stipulations. It is a standalone core rules book yet to be released to the public and live action RPGs...

Nominate your MOST ANTICIPATED RPG of 2024

Well, I’ve nominated Mongoose's Pioneer already, and I am also anticipating Pendragon 6th edition although somebody else nominated that. I can’t nominate whatever Atlas’ plans are with Ars Magica as I don’t know them, and most of the other stuff fails to qualify as supplements and the like. So...

Nominate your MOST ANTICIPATED RPG of 2024

Did we get a ruling on whether D&D’s new rulebooks count as a new edition, eligible for this vote or not?

Nominate your MOST ANTICIPATED RPG of 2024

Wasn’t there a Gotham City RPG coming out this year? Also, we didn’t get Cthulhu by Gaslight this year, so maybe 2024 and I think it was mentioned that it’s likely to be a stand-alone line to the main Call of Cthulhu game. No links at the moment though.

Nominate your MOST ANTICIPATED RPG of 2024

My nomination is Mongoose Publishing’s Pioneer. A standalone sci-fi game based on Traveller’s rules but set a few decades from now and as close to realistic as possible. Think: The Martian. Mentioned in State of Mongoose -...

Nominate your MOST ANTICIPATED RPG of 2024

It’s hard to say what it will be on this information alone but a good guess could be some sort of Starter set for the game. Rather than make a new edition, get some sort of box set version that is still broadly compatible with the rest of the line but much simpler to use. This is all...

Nominate your MOST ANTICIPATED RPG of 2024

On their Facebook page, Atlas Games had this following conversation about new Ars Magica stuff: "Only thing that makes me sad is that the Ars Magica line has officially ended. Sure, I can keep it alive through play, but it's still sad that I will never see a new Ars Magica sourcebook...
