Rules in 3.5 that need fixing and what you'd do to fix it.

Here are few things. some I've done and some I intend to do. Min skill poits per lv 4 (no those 2 points things, I hate them, houseruled it long time ago) No cross-class skills. Instad give some classes abilites that make some skills better for the. Drop whole favored class thing. Skill max...

    What settings do you love?

Scarred Lands - but later books changed theme so I don't like them in sense of setting, but some of them have general good stuff to use in Scarred Lands or other setting Oathbound - really fun setting for me. Can use almost everything but gods/powerful outsiders working for gods/other lords...

Best rules that game designers have made?

Logical similarity Unified XP tables Advancing monsters, monster stats Templates 3E Multiclassing (though exact details don't always work so well) Keeping six base stats and character levels/HD d20 + modifiers. Higher is always better. Lot of cool ideas

Worse Rules that game designers have made?

Yes, and I hate they choose to balance it with feats. Balance would be better served to set entrance requiment with skills required or with spells of x level to cast, or with BAB of x requiment. I've seen way too many Toughness and dodge or skill focus, or iron will requiments. All things that...

Worse Rules that game designers have made?

Misc order list: - Undead turning rules are bad. Especially bad is part where you have have to throw d20 to know whatever turning is this time between -4 to +4 cleric levels. Rest of it is rather possible to remember without checking it each and everytime. - Creating sorcerer class, then...

Which Adventure Path is the best?

I am currently player in Shackled city adventure. I find it rather interesting, though some of the lower level dungeons had way too much rooms filled with nothing. And few had so little actual plot-relevance, that motivation to risk death at those places was rather hard to find. I think I might...

Would you pay for storyhour updates?

No. I like some storyhours so much, that I'd like to pay for them, but it's not practical. I'd like to buy pdf:s and mp3:s but I haven't got many of them I'd really liked to, because paying from Finland is too hard, and sometimes impossible. I don't own credit card, I can have my friends to...

    Do scenarios need a BBEG?

I like big bads as player, but I am not always so found of using them as DM, depends a bit on style of game. I like classics, like facing dragons, or evil outsiders or nasty undead, with occasional thing from beyond. I don't mean, that facing them would always mean fighting them. They could...

New "What sort of RPG player are you?" poll (this one by Charles Ryan)

Mmh, interesting and somewhat true. However, what I want from game changes many times, even during the game. Also, how I make my character and how I play them also varies depending which people I play with. Weekend Warrior 65% Power Gamer 60% Character Player 60% Storyteller 50% Casual Gamer...

Do You Kill off your PC's.

Yep, sometimes characters die. Sometimes permanent thing, sometimes they come back, in one way or another. In plot heavy games I am careful to let characters die in some random combats or stuff like that. In games, where raising the death is possible, I don't fudge, but instead let party have...

    Favorite Third-Party Settings

Scarred Lands Oathbound Freeport (but we added that to Scarred Lands) Greyhawk And my own ones of course, though all becomes mine after some time using world whose ideas were given by someone else.

A leveling way to limit access to magic?

Ah simple, I woudnt't play spellcaster. Maybe one spellcaster lv for for some character concept but no more. I like low magic games, but then challenges must also be suited for characters who don't have access to buffs, magic weapons and other extras, system normally expects them to have. It's...

    Far Realms poll

I agree to poster that said Dragon issue 330 low sales might have something do with cover art. Means nothing to someone who is going to buy every issue like me, but for casual buyers it's much bigger thing. I'd like some epic statted alien monsters, some ritual summons spells, nasty artifacts...

    Far Realms poll

I second this. I love Far Realms. But mystique is very important to me. If creepy alieness is changed into "they are scary ugly evil monsters, their home is second new name for Abyss", I stop caring. Keeping the theme would be hard for most writers I think.

    Your dream DM

My dream gm's: Well my first warhammer gm, when we were still young and games felt new and cool. So, I want past version of him running games. Then there is my current dm, I think is best ever, only he was so much better when he had more time for thinking game stuff, and not rl-work-related...

Favorite Dump Stat for Purely Roleplaying Reasons

Wisdom or at time Strength However, I'd prefer to be sort of stubborn, and resisting charms badly doesn't quite fit the bill, when I play using D&D rules. So, I usually put 10 for wis, and take iron will. I want my character lisence to do unwise things. I don't like play careful. And my late...

    How world and rules interact

When playing any rpg I find rules very import to communicate tje same thing to everybody how world works. I hate, hate, hate situations when people throw their little pet system at me (home made typically), don't expain it well enough (whooh didn't take time to write it down anyway), and then...
