    Spell Resistance and Casting Tiem

SR 10+HD is usually pretty good. If your HD10 (or level 10) then you have 20 SR. So, a level 10 caster must get a 10 or above to penetrate your SR. Thats 55% chance that the enemy will break through SR (you have a 45% chance to fend off the spell). A Drow has SR11+HD (or class levels) as...

    D&D 3.x What 1st, 2nd, and 4th edition rules should be imported into 3.5e?

Also, I ask what OD&D or AD&D (any edition before 3.x) rules do you guys think should be imported into 3.x edition. I am even more unfamiliar with the earlier versions of the game so I want to hear about any good rules you 'old timers' just cant leave in the dust.

    D&D 3.x What 1st, 2nd, and 4th edition rules should be imported into 3.5e?

Thank you for the quite response. Thats what I thought but I was wondering if pathfinder was incorporated or not 9although i guess that would be called "pathfinder" not "3.x.").

    Mechanical Arts

Excuse my ignorance but why does a dwarves natural resistance make it hard for THEM to cast spells? I ask because I am wondering if I am missing any rules (since i dont give a dwarf a penalty for casting spells).

    D&D 3.x What 1st, 2nd, and 4th edition rules should be imported into 3.5e?

OD&D, AD&D, and/or 4th edition may offer some rules that would compliment 3.5 edition (such as skill challenges from 4th, although most DM's probably implement skill challenges anyway). I dont know these editions well so i want to ask you guys what rules you like in 4th edition and how they can...

Search Skill and Taking 20:House Rule, no taking 20 on search checks

I take this as a rhetorical question. In light of that I have heard plenty of input and I will most likely implement some of what has been said (so I AM listening to input and I dont know why you think I am not). I do understand that some like the take 20 rule, but as my opening paragraph has...

Search Skill and Taking 20:House Rule, no taking 20 on search checks

Thats not necessarily a reason to do it (i am the DM after all, so I will be keeping track), also, it is actually much simpler to ban the take 20 rule than to plant high DC items.

Search Skill and Taking 20:House Rule, no taking 20 on search checks

I am all for realism in the game but I just dont like the mechanics and just because someone can come up with a reason why his warforged SHOULDNT get the penalty to take 20 doesnt mean I should let it in the campaign. I would implement the take 20 penalty rule without needing to justify it using...

Search Skill and Taking 20:House Rule, no taking 20 on search checks

Yeah like you said from the players perspective its the same, so I ask you: why do it your way????? Why set DC's to high?

Search Skill and Taking 20:House Rule, no taking 20 on search checks

Well our real world 'make sense' but there ARE MANY THINGS we just cannot find (due to human limits). Saying: it is physically possible that any item or hidden room can be found (by some being or another) is, in one sense, a trivial truth and is not really what we are talking about. Its trivial...

D&D 3.x D&D 3.5 Magic Item Creation Feat Prerequisite and Practiced Spellcaster

I know this is no authority but the game Neverwinter Nights 2 (which runs off of 3.5 edition) does let you take Craft Magic Arms and Armor if you have "Practiced Spellcaster" with only one level of Sorcerer (or more generally one level of spellcasting class) and with the rest of your levels...

Search Skill and Taking 20:House Rule, no taking 20 on search checks

Good idea! I will have to do that for sure.

Search Skill and Taking 20:House Rule, no taking 20 on search checks

I really dont see why it is "silly." Just because a PC has the skill and training doesnt mean that much. NO OTHER SKILL OR ABILITY IN THE GAME (that I know of) that requires a roll is a for sure success given enough time (there are some mundane things, like buying stuff, that are ALWAYS...

Search Skill and Taking 20:House Rule, no taking 20 on search checks

I want there to be hidden places/items/things that the PC's may not be able to get too. By taking 20 no hidden room is 'really' hidden, no item is really hidden either (you can make the DC to high to find and that doesnt make any sense either unless you are waiting to reveal that area/item until...

Search Skill and Taking 20:House Rule, no taking 20 on search checks

When setting hidden areas and treasure for PC's you can either: (1) set the DC to find the area/treasure with the search skill to a number the PCs can beat OR (2) you can set the DC to a number the PCs cannot beat. The PC's can always take 20 on their search checks. So, as a DM you can set...

D20 Future: Heir Occupation too good?

I am thinking... maybe the wealth system of D20 future would work better if you could not take 20 on a wealth check. Its not a perfect fix by any standard but... any thoughts?

quick and easy edition question (i hope)

My first experience with 'real' D&D was with 3.0e. Before playing real D&D I have played CPU games that ran off of advanced D&D (2.0e) rules (such as "icewind dale" 1 and 2 and "planescape: Torment", which by the way is one of the best D&D console games I have played [i havent played Baldurs...

D20 Future: Heir Occupation too good?

Yeah I have never actually GMed a D20 future game. The wealth system seems cool but I can see how abuse may be on par with D&D and magic, although thats a big torch to carry (and the heir can afford very good stuff from level 1 up). I notice that you can get cybernetic implants, biotech (if you...

D20 Future: Heir Occupation too good?

D20 Future offers a new occupation, the heir. At the end there is a clause that states: "As long as her Reputation bonus is +1 heir’s wealth bonus can never drop below 10." That means that an heir can take 20 on their wealth checks and ALWAYS get an item of wealth DC 30 or below! AND their...
