Dungeon World Gets New Owners, Second Edition Planned

I wouldn't say unreadable. It's well written and I like the tone. If you sit down and read it linearly it's perfectly fine. However, the meandering of Crane's writing, the unnecessary complexity of some rules (or at least how they're presented) coupled with naming rules like "Let it Ride" mean...

    Starfinder Update from Gen Con

I own all Starfinder 1st edition books. Haven't played enough for the amount that I sank into it. But I really love their setting and I had two amazing campaigns with it. I was very excited at the mention of a second edition. When they mentioned compatibility with Pathfinder 2e I thought it was...

Olympics Talk: A brief discussion before it goes away

I don't really watch the olympics, so what I'll share is pure dump of opinion for conversation sake. I never understood the presence of disciplines that are not objective in their results. For example, if there's an event to see who runs the fastest over 100m... it's simple. Whoever crosses the...

Trailer Sid Meier’s Civilization VII - Gameplay Reveal Trailer

I enjoyed Civilization games. But I felt like Civilization VI was lacking in many regards; and they fixed it by releasing 53$CAD DLCs that were quite meager in content. I'm not excited for Civilization VII as I expect the same issue to just grow in magnitude.

Dungeon World Gets New Owners, Second Edition Planned

I'm not gonna comment on the issues regarding Crane's relationship to Koebel. But the quote of Crane saying that DW needs a good editing pass leaves me hesitant. I absolutely love Burning Wheel, it's a great game. But all the Crane's products that I've touched severely lacked in editing. The...

RPG Print News – Free League, Mongoose, and More

I'm very curious about it. The price is steep though, and I know nothing about it. Will look for a review or preview.

    Million Dollar TTRPG Kickstarter Club

We're gonna need another club. The 10 Million dollar club. This one is not exclusive enough anymore.

    Draw Steel the MCDM RPG!

Have you ever read or played Burning Wheel? 😂

    Was Thac0 really that bad?

Suggesting that a design is right and that the majority of its user are just using it wrong is generally a sign that the design is not that great.

User Name and Avatars: Origin Stories

When I was much younger, I was doing worldbuilding. I wanted to created a cool title. Looked a bit into other languages and learned that Kaiser meant emperor. So I made the title Allkaiser. I thought I was witty. Later, I decided it looked cooler with one L. So, if you had the title, you there...

D&D General Map I made this week

    Always love a large map.

    D&D 5E (2024) D&D Pre-orders; this is sad

It didn't seem so aggressively monetized to me. Of course the cards are pricy for what they really are, and they didn't shy away from the rarity dynamic to drive up the price of cards. But it still felt like they wanted to make the best possible product and just released more of it to increase...

    D&D 5E (2024) D&D Pre-orders; this is sad

Possibly. It felt like that by moments, but it was never obvious. They were limited by their success and the moderate size of their industry. Now that they've exploded in value and that they have the means to choose a path, they made it obvious. Their recent aggressive monetization of Magic the...

    D&D 5E (2024) D&D Pre-orders; this is sad

The topic has been cleared many times. I was not the best at explaining my point succinctly, but others did. You want facts? In the last two years WotC proved to us that they're a hyper-corporate environment that puts their profit before their customer, the quality of their product, the...

    D&D 5E (2024) D&D Pre-orders; this is sad

Sure. There's no gap between some companies over-monetizing their product at the expense of its quality and their consumer and the abolishment of currency and general anarchy. We can be critical of certain corporations and practices while still participating in a capitalist society by providing...

    D&D 5E (2024) D&D Pre-orders; this is sad

The thing is that, in our experience, almost every time we saw a tiny bit of smoke, it turned into a roaring inferno. Does it mean this one will turn into one? Maybe one. Is it illogical to be worried that it will? I don't think so.

    D&D 5E (2024) D&D Pre-orders; this is sad

I'm sorry you got piled on at the start of the thread. I just have a clear vision of how it could go (and how I think it will) because of my own experiences. But I'm open to knowing why some people are not worried and think it will be fine. The dramatic tone of my original post aside, I'm...

    D&D 5E (2024) D&D Pre-orders; this is sad

I don't hate capitalism. But capitalism takes many forms and there is place for being a moral and ethical company while getting paid. It doesn't have to be an endless chase of growth and profits for profits sake.

    D&D 5E (2024) D&D Pre-orders; this is sad

That's what I've been doing since I became disinterested in 5E. But I fear that their methods might spread and affect these other games that I'm enjoying. A decade ago, everyone called Electronic Arts crazy for having DLCs (downloadable content, paid) on the day of release. And now it's a standard.

    D&D 5E (2024) D&D Pre-orders; this is sad

It is an expression of fear. You're entirely right. I think this shows it well. But I'm not projecting any foundation of truth. I've been clear that I'm anxious about the future of D&D and the possible impacts it could have on the industry. I'm curious to see how others feel or see what I see...
