    D&D 5E (2014) Armour check penalties

Yep. I'll be houseruling that most likely. No swimming in heavy armor. Or at least if you try, massive penalties to it. More than disadvantage for sure (which I may just apply to swimming in medium armor; not sure. Have to see/play the game first). But swimming in heavy will definitely be...

Should probably get disadvantage on any intimidation-type checks while wearing your floaties too.

    I'd watch this movie.

    D&D 5E (2014) Additive versus subtractive modularity

Sticking with a game that works would be my suggestion. I know lots of people that never moved to 3.x or 4.x. They stuck with 1e or 2e or whatever. They tried 3.x or 4.x and didn't like it. (Hell, I was one of the ones that didn't move to 4.x at all. I looked at it. Tried it. Hated it. Went back...

    D&D 5E (2014) Additive versus subtractive modularity

Failure to do so says it's your game. Play it and houserule it however you wish. WotC shouldn't have to, and doesn't need to supply a rule or optional rule (or module or whatever) to cover every niche or function from every previous edition. They couldn't anyway (too many differences between...

    D&D 5E (2014) 5e Hobgoblin stat block

But, if WotC changes it (doesn't matter to me if they do or don't honestly), how long before the cries of "It's a completely different monster!!!! My game is ruined!!!!!" fill the internets?

Options like that may appear in future class or race books. I believe WotC said they don't plan on releasing as many splat books as they did in the past, but we shall see. I think we'll see some sort of class books or maybe a single book with advanced/alternate class options in it at some point.

    D&D 5E (2014) Additive versus subtractive modularity

I agree with this. I don't think 5e will be as modular as they maybe hinted at in the beginning. Maybe it will be. Or maybe they couldn't get it to work. Who knows. But the DMG having dials and knobs for every possible iteration of everything from past editions won't be in there. Not a chance...

    D&D 5E (2014) Additive versus subtractive modularity

Not likely. I've been removing stuff since 1e and my shins are fine. No TSR or WotC police yet. :)

D&D 5E (2014) Where (and when) are you getting the Starter Set?

Same here. Prime is the way to go.

Replacing the human "+1 all" bonus...

Way too overpowered IMO. Granting humans a bonus to all of the things it affects (saves, attack rolls, checks, etc.) is too much IMO.

    Mapping Quandary

Mine's pretty much the same way. "Main village" and then a lot of smaller places all around it. And by smaller places, I mean pretty much like Umbran described above. Couple of homes, maybe a makeshift tavern or whatever. The PCs may be able to find a barn or stable to sleep in for the night...

Would also mean the wizard has to wade into melee combat to attack. Not usually the greatest of ideas.

    D&D 5E (2014) ... and we have a wizard!

Back in the "old days" nothing beat a magic-user's player saying "I cast fireball" and then hearing the collective gasps from the rest of the players.

    D&D 5E (2014) Starter Set: Except 7

I'm very curious to see if the Invisible Stalker appears in MM1 5e and if the art is a throwback to 1e.

Fighters at max hit points die just like fighters with 1 hit point...just not as quickly.
