D&D 5E (2014) D&D Unboxing Starter Set Video is on Youtube

Not really railroading. It's in the last playtest DM Guidelines section. Random encounters. Roll every 10 minutes. Odds aren't good even in a "densely populated dungeon" (16-20 on 1d20) on a single roll, but roll enough times, odds are the PCs will encounter something. Roll enough times per day...

That's pretty, well, bad advice IMHO. I can see lots of players simply shrugging and responding with "We'll quit being boring as soon as Joe Fighter finishes healing." Better advice would be "Use the wandering monsters tables religiously."

    D&D 5E (2014) My Hope for D&D 5/N

Same here. And agree with it. Rolling randomly across the treasure tables was always a lot of fun.

D&D 5E (2014) Should the Fighter's "Second Wind" ability grant temporary HP instead of regular HP?

Bit of a stretch, isn't it? Hit points do not, and have never represented straight up wounds. As for not having time to bleed....Jesse Ventura in the movie Predator even says he doesn't have time to bleed (while he's bleeding), so maybe there is something to it.

This goes along with the stupid bag o' rats thing. As DM, if my players tried that or the fistfight during resting thing to heal, I'd have to say "Ok. It's funny. It's also stupid. Stop it." And if they don't.... "During your fistfight, you guys are surprised. Roll initiative."

    D&D 5E (2014) Starter Set: Excerpt 6

Yep. Kinda where I am on it. Rust monsters and disenchanters can eat magic items; but not artifacts or "special" items.

    D&D 5E (2014) Starter Set: Excerpt 6

I see a quest here. Send the PCs out to collect rust monster poop for an ingredient in some magic item they are constructing. Ancient NPC: "You need the blood of a medusa, the powdered horn of a unicorn, and uh...the poop of a rust monster." PC Wizard: "I'm sorry. What was that last one again?"

So rust monsters can no longer eat magical armor?

Or grab a copy of the 1e DMG. There were tables in there for scent, taste, and color I believe. (Not specifically geared toward potions but they were used for that easily enough.)

So house rule it to use HD? Give the fighter bonus HD he can use that count as "second wind". Or remove it entirely and replace it with something else.

D&D 5E (2014) Should the Fighter's "Second Wind" ability grant temporary HP instead of regular HP?

Stop with your logic and stuff :) Yep. I could see that. Even if the DMG doesn't address it, I am sure some future supplement will...and if not, individual DMs can/will house rule it for their game(s).

D&D 5E (2014) Do we know if they are keeping the 20 Natural score cap? What about expanded backgrounds?

Yep. Same way it was in 1e too. The girdles of giant strength could boost your Str above the normal max of 18 or 19, all the way to 24 (storm giant).

D&D 5E (2014) Should the Fighter's "Second Wind" ability grant temporary HP instead of regular HP?

So what stops you as DM from removing the ability from fighters and house ruling something else (or nothing) in its place?

D&D 5E (2014) Starter Set Character Sheet Revealed!

To truly capture the 1e flavor on the character sheet, they need to add the "Last Will and Testament" section at the bottom.

D&D 5E (2014) Starter Set Character Sheet Revealed!

A single line in the Spells chapter saying "You can only cast one spell per round no matter what" (or something along those lines) takes care of that. No need to include such a line in an ability for the fighter class since fighters can't cast spells. Or a single line similar to the above in the...

D&D 5E (2014) Ideas from the Playtest you'll add if they don't make the cut

Could also limit magic items (if that's the goal) by using the old school method. Move item creation to higher levels (I think it was like 11th for scrolls and 13th for everything else in the 1e DMG) and require a quest to get the needed ingredients to construct said magic item. Want to create a...

    D&D 5E (2014) Armored Mages

Not a bad idea. Runequest did this (or maybe it wasn't RQ but one of it's variants...Elric maybe??). They also had requirements on weapons too I believe (Str and Dex).
