D&D 5E (2014) Any New Monsters in the MM?

True. More oozes and the quickling would've been cool. There are other monsters I would've dropped for them. The nothic (as you mentioned) definitely comes to mind.

    D&D 5E (2014) Spell Durations

    Yep. Agree with this.

D&D 5E (2014) Any New Monsters in the MM?

No way. The only thing better than the quaggoth...two quaggoths.

    D&D 5E (2014) Carrion Crawler error?

Be interesting to see if this is errata (like the CR 23 monsters' XP values likely will be) or if it's by design.

D&D 5E (2014) Does Condition Immunity: Poison give Disease Immunity?

Only if the DM says they do. If the DM says "nope", then they don't. Problem solved.

D&D 5E (2014) When Monsters and NPCs take a Short Rest

As DM, the monsters/NPCs heal as much as I decide they heal. They don't play by the same rules the PCs do (like they did in 3.x).

D&D 5E (2014) Is the 5e Monster Manual the best MM ever?

I think he's referring to the original 2e Monstrous Compendiums. They released as a three-ring binder. Subsequent "monster books" were loose inserts to be added.

    D&D 5E (2014) Prestige classes in Next?

They will do splatbooks. Maybe not as many as 3.x had, but they will.

D&D 5E (2014) Is the 5e Monster Manual the best MM ever?

Now there's a name I've not heard in a long time....a long time.

    D&D 5E (2014) 5e Spawn of Kyuss

I'd increase both of these. The mummy, CR 3, has 58 hit points. An average CR 5 monster (I dumped ALL of the MM, and every other monster/NPC we've seen into a spreadsheet) has 94 hp. Average damage for a CR 5 monster is 27 per round (though probably less when it has rider effects on its...

D&D 5E (2014) Is the 5e Monster Manual the best MM ever?

I like it, and it's a good book. But best MM ever? Nope.

    D&D 5E (2014) 5e Spawn of Kyuss

I'd change this. Very few things in 5e deal ability damage/drain anymore. I think only the Shadow does now. (I don't remember anything else in the MM doing it.) Change this so it reduces maximum hp each day, like the mummy's curse or whatever, and maybe give disadvantage on Wisdom checks/saves...

D&D 5E (2014) Do magic missiles automatically hit

Yep. The ensuing quest to raise a dead character (or NPC) has led to many memorable things in our games. (There is no run back to town and pay the cleric to raise the deceased; and PCs don't have access to revivification magic...doesn't exist as such).

D&D 5E (2014) Do magic missiles automatically hit

Disagree. The DM's job is to set the tone, setting, narrate the story, describe the world, whatever, and challenge the characters. It's the player's job to keep their character alive. (Though granted in the above situation there wasn't really a chance in Hell of that happening it doesn't sound...

D&D 5E (2014) Raise your hand if your mom...

My parents (specifically my dad) bought me the original red box set back in like 81 or 82 for my b-day. Now, in the early to mid 80s my best friend's mom saw Mazes and Monsters and got spooked. Burned (as in took his stuff outside and made a nice big fire) all his gaming stuff. Course, it didn't...

Give me your monster conversion request!

Wasn't the war devil originally the Malebranche? If so, it too is in the MM.

Sea hag is in the MM

    D&D 5E (2014) I dream of... What?

Same as in 1e IIRC. Standard djinn couldn't grant wishes, but noble ones could three times to its master before being freed from service.

    D&D 5E (2014) Tome Pact is dicey

No such thing. A DM never forgets.
