Never said that there aren't any veterans who converted to 5e who love 5e. I said that the majority of 5e fans never played another edition before 5e or don't remember much from those previous editions to compare it to. According to WOTC, it's 55%+ new money.

Less low level and more low power and low customization. OSR is heavily player skill over character skill and you only get that if characters start with low power, gain power slowly, and have little ability to enhance strength nor cover weaknesses. OSR typically does that by killing or...

5e's success and lack of initial criticism by it's fans was do that half of the customer base had it as their first edition. And a noticeable amount of the "experienced" fans for laps fans who barely pay attention to the old games they used to play so they can little in their memory to compare...

The Playtest wasn't the the issue of 5.5e, Daggerheart, and Draw Steel copied major parts of it. It was mostly presentation and the sacred cows thrown out for balance. After 5e, many people realized why 4e did what it did. Hence why post 2014 dungeon games have a 1e/2e paint to go simpler or...

Not casual. New 3e was in addition that when you're new to the game you really don't know how to abuse it. So when you're new to the game you really didn't run into the balance problems or the optimization problems, or the lack of options issues. But once you get experience in the game and...

Nah. By 3e ended, the community was too split to do what Hasbro wanted. Community was literally split in 4. WOTC would have to commit to placating 4 different groups halfway.

4e didn't fail. 4e didn't take over RPG and meet Hasbro's expectations due to a series of bad luck circumstances Fantasy RPG community is too divided to get what Hasbro ever wants ever again without another global pandemic channeling everyone to popular containing D&D elements.

Draw Steel is close to 4e. Proof that 4e was a style that a noticable part of the community wanted. It was just too early and lacked the celebrity to wash over the changes that people wanted to happen but didn't want to see. That's why personally in my preferred 6e, I would create or redesign...

D&D 5E (2024) What’s the difference between sorcerers, warlocks, and wizards?

Just to say. If there was an edition that was an iteration of 4e and I designed it, the Arcane Power source would be split Wizardry powers would be Arcane Daily Powers Witchcraft powers would be Arcane Encounter Powers Sorcery powers would be Arcane At Will Powers Level 1 Wizards would get 2...

D&D 5E (2024) What’s the difference between sorcerers, warlocks, and wizards?

Again it all depends on presentation. If Celestial Arcana Chaos Morph Clockwork Cannon Dragon Breath Dragon Scale Elemental Burst Wild Explosion were your sorcerer Sorcery options, that reaction would be limited because the base wild mage is still a mage

D&D 5E (2024) What’s the difference between sorcerers, warlocks, and wizards?

Better than a gish as your subclass on a caster class. more like a scarlet with with probability magic. Wild Surging only if you choose to go greedy.

D&D 5E (2024) What’s the difference between sorcerers, warlocks, and wizards?

It was a bad showing for a first option. Had it been a wild sorcerer who could spend sorcery points to invoke Wild Surges or chaotic explosions on a standard mage chassis, it would have tested better. And they could have left in Dragon Breath and such as a hint to how subclasses worked.

D&D 5E (2024) What’s the difference between sorcerers, warlocks, and wizards?

Sorcerer Design didn't go far enough in design because the community was scared by the Playtest being a gish. If the Playtest sorcerer was a blaster, sorcerer might have been more distinct from wizards.

Sure. But I've never seen those descriptions since 2e. They would be manifesting archetypes. Halflings would be the people whose entire life are based around good and bad luck. Their cheeriness and carefree attitudes are due to the fact that they tend to be so lucky that they don't care as...

D&D 5E (2024) What’s the difference between sorcerers, warlocks, and wizards?

I always thought Wizardry Sorcery Warlocky Should be different types of magic. I personally think cantrips should be a sorcery thing that Wizards, warlocks, and priests give themselves with spells.
