D&D General How has D&D changed over the decades?

He literally went through every edition and touched on one or two points. Why would you require he is really clear that 4e isnt just a skirmish game? He wasnt smearing 4e any more than he did any other edition.

D&D General How has D&D changed over the decades?

Tactictly Death isnt always the desired result. if the PC is down they are no longer a threat. I don't like when DMs think that the monsters just want to kill (Unless the fluff warrants it) I immediately shift the monsters to making sure the support is taken down once a damage dealer is down...

    D&D 5E (2014) Here's A Look At 3 Adventures from the Radiant Citadel

Yes I can see that. THe problem with 3.5 is when DM's don't know the players ranges. Before I do any kind of skill based session I am going to know the ranges of skills so I can set difficulty properly. I think many DMs did not do that. In that case you can totally DC block. Also you can...

D&D General How has D&D changed over the decades?

The Aesthetic has definitely changed. So has the player philosophies. Rule of Cool is much more prevalent, and I had a newer player leave because I wouldn't let them accomplish something if it violated the rules (not in a dramatic way, just not the game want to play.) She played in a previous...

    D&D 5E (2014) Here's A Look At 3 Adventures from the Radiant Citadel

The Skill system in 5e is much less robust than PF or 3rd edition. Its one of the reasons I run more games in PF than I do 5e. I find that 5e is very limited on skills. I can't see how 5e can do investifation adventures better especially with the available feats in PF or 3.5

    D&D 5E (2014) Here's A Look At 3 Adventures from the Radiant Citadel

This has been happening since its inception. IN all editions Ive had sessions where we just roleplay. You don't need rules of roleplaying it just happens. D&D is just as good for roleplay as any other system since rules would probably get in the way of roleplay. But non violent solutions are...

D&D 5E (2014) The Next D&D Book is JOURNEYS THROUGH THE RADIANT CITADEL

THis is a troubling trend in mostly the Twitter RPG Community. They CELEBRATE when something is not what others want. Its very disconcerting.

D&D 5E (2014) The Next D&D Book is JOURNEYS THROUGH THE RADIANT CITADEL

I still use alignment mechanics in my 5e game. If I don't want to use alignment I play a game other than D&D. But in the D&D Worlds I use, alignment is tangible.

One set of these is not like the other though. Fantasy is changed but its not necessarily better. We have better production value. Climate change is actually important. ITs just odd to equate it with Fantasy aesthteics.

D&D 5E (2014) The Next D&D Book is JOURNEYS THROUGH THE RADIANT CITADEL

Yep this was my primary reaction. I 100% agree. Plus this has departed from the medieval tropes and is cutting much closer to the modern tropes, see Iron Chef inspired first adventure. WHen I want to explore concepts like these I'll use other systems. For D&D I know exactly what I want.

D&D 5E (2014) The Next D&D Book is JOURNEYS THROUGH THE RADIANT CITADEL

Honestly I don't know why this is a surprise. People like what they like. I saw synopsis of these adventures being about genrational trauma (my wife explained to me the same thing Encanto was about, shes probably right), and then the first adventure being made with streamers in mind. So I...

D&D 5E (2014) The Next D&D Book is JOURNEYS THROUGH THE RADIANT CITADEL

Let me rephrase it to say for todays political environment where you may start out as slaves (many characters did) and you frequently encounter slaves in the town going about their business its clear its not just evil people holding slaves. It in no way is the same as Fantasy drow slaves being...

D&D 5E (2014) The Next D&D Book is JOURNEYS THROUGH THE RADIANT CITADEL

The Main character, the psionicist hero of the Verdant Passage kept slaves. 5 novels. He freed them after they did a peaceful revolt. Slavery was not just done by the sorceror kings. Slavery was a trope in Dark Sun. It was not clear it was evil. Plus one class you pretty much were a...

Panzer Lion is a reasonable dude from everything I read from him. I doubt he'd be causing a storm if it wasnt warranted.

D&D 5E (2014) The Next D&D Book is JOURNEYS THROUGH THE RADIANT CITADEL

Darksun is a nightmare in this current political environment. You'd absolutely have to advance the time line to free all the slaves, and play in the post slavery Dark Sun. We all know how well 4e Forgotten Realms was received by fans for the time jump.

D&D 5E (2014) Ajit George Talks About Radiant Citadel's Creators

Why is Kim Mohan bad now? I'd think his input would be perfect for this project. I've enjoyed his work for a long time.
