Grease - Uses of and effectivity.

Wow, I'm glad I didn't mention the dirty knife... (Python; you either get it or you don't.) :p

    So we're expecting a baby...

Hi all, My girlfriend is currently eight and a half months pregnant. The due-date is August 10th, which happily, is also my birthday. We've been told there's a very good chance (although hospitals in the UK are no longer allowed to tell people the gender with certainty) that we'll be having a...

feats for grapple checks, need some

Not that it gives you any statistical bonuses, but the knife-fighter regional feat from Players Guide to Faerun is worthwhile... allowing you to fight with light weapons in a grapple at no penalty.

    Targeting items with spells.

What prompted the question was that if you choose to cast it on the floor, the opponent(s) gets a save, however if they pass, the Grease is still there. Is there wording to prevent this when used on an item instead?

    Targeting items with spells.

Hi all, If I target an item with a spell, that item gets a save based on whomever is holding it. That part is easy. SILENCE: I attempt to silence your hat, you save, we're done. What about for spells with more physical/tangible effects? What springs to mind is Grease. GREASE: I attempt...

Grease - Uses of and effectivity.

Thanks for the input from both of you, Jeff and Tatsukun, I'll need some more opinions though, as I'm planning to use this very 'trick' to aid us in a big fight next session, and our DM will be monitoring things quite precisely I'd imagine, as I've already got away with quite a lot with Grease...

Grease - Uses of and effectivity.

That's an interesting point, how would you recommend to enhance it? If you based a 2nd level spell upon it for example what would justify it? Just higher DC? A bigger radius? I've not dabbled in spell creation before, sadly.

Grease - Uses of and effectivity.

Truly? I had no idea! 5 Ranks, or +5 total? Not many Duergar (A frequent enemy in the campaign) have 5 ranks in Balance. You're a star. For the benefit of my DM... where's that written exactly? :)

Grease - Uses of and effectivity.

Yeah, he rolled an almighty TWO. Hahah. You're right about the DC and everything, of course, but we're big fans of common sense in our game too, so we often apply modifiers (as the spell in fact suggests). Escaping from a grapple eyyyyy... I shall have to bear that in mind! Disarming...

Grease - Uses of and effectivity.

Hi all, I'm playing an Eldritch Knight at the moment, currently a 9th level caster (Thankyou Practiced Spellcaster!) and I think I've come across the handiest damn spell after years of snubbing it. In the last three sessions I've cast Grease to: 1) Make it immensely difficult to have...

    Invisibility

It's exactly that that's brought this whole thing up, with every enemy being invis and moving around before they attack. I appreciate your input and everything about DM Genie. I've looked at that very program before myself but unfortunatley my DM is a technophobe and I couldn't sway him :(...

    Invisibility

Hi all, The most concerning time of all in our group, is the time that the GM can't easily house-rule something, or if he does, when some players object. The most recent occurance of this was my use of "Improved Invisibility" last session. My figure remained on the floor plans (as it had to...

Hitting friends in meelee with missle weapons

Hahah, this was always used as a theory in my group. I know I may not be able to hit the Tarrasque easily, but you just watch how I pelt him when my wizard summons Jimmy the goblin on the other side of him...

    Party combat-planning.

Hi all, D&D is such a versatile game, it amazes me constantly how differently each individual could play the same character with the same stats and the same gear. I've just joined a 2nd campaign so that I play in one weekly game, and one fortnightly. The fortnightly, my favourite, the other...

    Champion of Correlon

Is the CoC extra damage applied only to creatures vunerable to criticals etc? Could be a big swinging point in this arguement... a fighter doing his damage to anything... :D

    Grappling & Knifefighter

Good day fellow ENWorlders! I've just recently started a fighter in new campaign, the campaign being set in The Hordelands (Near Karatur) in the Forgotten Realms. Our starting characters we're all from a particular tribe native to the lands. The campaign in itself has a very gritty, real...

    Bards just don't convince me!

Now, this is the kind of stuff I mean. I have no idea what any of that is. Ironskin chant, sustaining song, it means nothing to me because nothing about the bard grabbed me strongly enough to read into it fully. What books are they from? We rarely play anything but PHB & Completes. ...but I...

    Bards just don't convince me!

Yeah you're right, a +1 bonus that stacks is lovely, but my point is... does a +1 party bonus and a below average combat participant equal filling the same party slot that could've been another mage, or another fighter etc?

    Bards just don't convince me!

One of the players in my group recently had his character killed and doesn't want him ressurected or raised in any way. He says he's been thinking about playing a bard for a while and thinks he can make it worthwhile. Instantly there were grumblings amongst the group. Nobody I game with can see...

    Occult Slayer & Spell Turning.

I think that'll be one of those things that has to be solved in-game. It seems very much down to DM discretion because it is quite a fruity ability, there'd need to be lines drawn.
