    [Poly] World War II Mini-Game

My preference for a mini-game ... would be some sort of WuXia game. Though that'll probably step on Chris Prama's toes, since he's got Dragon Fist coming out some time.

    Dragon or Dungeon/Polyhedron?

Dungeon Magazine! Dragon has been worthless to me.

Probably a pretty lame question but...

Yeah. I loved that scene in Miracleman when Miracleman realizes that his nemesis, Gargunza was the one who created him and was the one feeding him all those lousy stories as a psychological experiment. As a twist, I think it'd be fun to have He-Man be the real villain. And yes, once the players...

    Free Adventure: Fear the Worst

Looks great, Mike! Is there going to be a d20 conversion posted somewhere? Failing that, could you post expected levels for certain NPCs? I am *so* running this for the 2nd adventure in the new campaign I'm starting.

Probably a pretty lame question but...

I think it'll be really cool to do a de-constructed He-Man, along the lines of Alan Moore's Miracleman. You play a group of He-Man type heroes who are inducted to become the replacement He-Man after the original He-Man has decided it's time to retire. In the course of fighting Skeletor, you...

    stupid PC names

Hm... I once named a human Monk I had "Thelonious." Just to see if anybody got the joke. Nobody even noticed.

Because they're the ones paying your bills? I'm not being facetious here. It's one thing to be a starving artist, but becoming successful means you're selling out? I don't think so. I don't think Monte Cook has sold out, any more than James Wallis did. But R. Sean Borgstorm works in Silicon...

    [WFRP] Hogshead Closes Doors

That's the point, isn't it? It doesn't matter what you like (as a DM or as a publisher), it's what your audience likes. As an entertainer (and DMs and RPG publishers are in the entertainment business), producing what the audience likes is a big part of your success. You can be successful in the...

    [WFRP] Hogshead Closes Doors

That's one reason to hire a business manager. Now, most RPG firms don't have the money to hire one, and hiring a bad one is worse than hiring no one, hence it may not be a viable solution to Hogshead, but I'd say that the business managers for WotC have done a fantastic job so far. Ryan Dancey...

Same here. 3E brought back this old 1E player to RPGs. In my two groups, there are 4 D&D players that have returned to RPGs because of 3E, and 2 new players, 1 of which was brought to the table by me running Masks d20, and stayed when the group returned to D&D.

Yep, but I believe Wallis had a hand in the design. At least, that's what he said in his first interview.

Hogshead interview is up http://www.ogrecave.com/interviews/jameswallis2.shtml Yikes! He does sound bitter, and more than a bit burnt out.

    [WFRP] Hogshead Closes Doors

I'm not so sure of that. I think that Once Upon A Time has had a lot more appeal to non-gamers that any RPG I've tried. And Baron Munchausen would also be great. I suspect that distribution and publicity has more to do with their relative status than the games themselves. If Hasbro put out Baron...

    [WFRP] Hogshead Closes Doors

That might be true if I had an unlimited budget. While I've considered buying Nobilis on more than one occasion, something else from Monte Cook has always won out (I just bought Banewarrens). So in a situation with limited budget, I feel like rewarding the guy who's been nicer to me who also...

    [WFRP] Hogshead Closes Doors

No, I don't work in business, but I have to deal with costs and product design all the time. Well, if you don't want to make money, then whether your games are profitable or not is quite besides the point, right? If it's hobby income, then you don't care whether it makes money, or whether you...

    [WFRP] Hogshead Closes Doors

Hm... That was the very first review of Nobilis on rpg.net. I don't recall anything prior to that. There was a bit of hyping, but certainly no flaming or venom. Most of the venom was directed towards badly written reviews, not Nobilis. In any case, I don't blame him for being oversensitive, and...

You must be referring to this article: http://www.montecook.com/arch_lineos62.html I agree with everything he says in that article. In particular, web bulletin boards and postings are particular places where what you write forever stays in public memory. My interaction with James Wallis took...

Ryan Dancey on WoTC layoffs http://www.gamingreport.com/modules.php?op=modload&name=XForum&file=viewthread&tid=54 When I joined WotC in 1997, the whole company, including international divisions, represented just over 300 people. After three rounds of layoffs, and the separation of WotC's...

    [WFRP] Hogshead Closes Doors

Last time I checked, WoTC's layoffs were across the board, mainly because CCGs (which were a fad) were dying off, not because D&D was doing badly. (Several D&D business staff members have come forward here on these boards to say that D&D 3e beat all expectations in terms of sales volume and...

    [WFRP] Hogshead Closes Doors

His interaction with Allan Sugarbaker is not pretentious. It's his interaction with fans that typically lapse into "you are not worthy." Do check out the RPG.net links posted on the previous page. You'll get to see a side of him that doesn't show up when he has a friendly interviewer. :)
