d20 Modern - Room for something else...?

Why not just do what CoC d20 did? Have hit points = con, have an offensive option and a defensive option, and keep everyone at the equivalent of 4th level for Bab and saves. For advancement, if you want gritty realism, don't have any at all! Or give out hero points instead, which can be traded...

    Are you a killer DM?

Once a week per group. Two groups, running through pretty much the same series of adventures.

    Are you a killer DM?

Hm... In a year of playing, I've had about 15-20 or so PC deaths in the game. I lost count. I guess that would make me a killer DM. One particular Barbarian got held, Coup De Grace'd, brought back to life, held, removed paralysis, Coup De Grace'd again, and then came back as a Monte Cook...

Your thoughts on the power of prestige classes

The biggest example of classes which are more powerful without question are the +1 to spellcasting level classes. Those are incredibly powerful classes, since any additional ability they have are layered over (usually) existing powerful classes. There's no real penalty for a sorceror, wizard, or...

Your thoughts on the power of prestige classes

Different people seem to have different ideas of what prestige classes are supposed to do. For instance, some of my players think that the whole point of a PrC is to boost the PC's powers, at the expense of taking some suboptimal feats or skills. I think that the only reason to allow a PrC is...

spell casting for real - which one?

True Resurrection Raise Dead Heal Remove Disease Cure * Wounds With all that, I can set myself up as the ultimate religious leader, and take over the world. Besides, those are the spells that are most useful, for those of us who've lost friends to cancer, been in bad auto accidents, etc.

    d20 Modern and Spycraft

Sh! He works for AEG/Spycraft. What do you expect? Don't expect a publisher not to Shill for his own product. Mort, I like what I've seen of Spycraft, but the WP/VP really ticks me off. d20 modern's HP/Mass system works better for me.

    Low magic rulebook anyone?

Pah! Fie upon thee! Literature abounds with characters who've put huge amounts of their essence into their magic items. Sauron and his one ring, Morpheus and his items of office (like the ruby, his helm, and his bag of sand). So the fact that making a magic item drains you of your essence...

    Price-Sensitive Gamers

Tell them that it's always on sale at Amazon.com, at 30% off and free shipping. (Or buy.com, at 37% off and free shipping) You're jumping to conclusions. Just because there's always a copy sitting there doesn't mean it didn't sell. It could easily sell a copy a week but the store keeps...

    Price-Sensitive Gamers

I have to admit that I bought stuff that I otherwise wouldn't because they were cheap, rather than because they were things I was dying to have. For instance, I bought the Forgotten Realms Campaign Setting at $20 on eBay (shipping included), when I wouldn't have paid $40 for it. I bought Return...

    Theories?

Check out the CSICOPs http://www.csicop.org/ Lots of debunking of stuff. Try doing a search on say, qigong. Very entertaining, and a good site to look at. Try typing Uri Geller into the search engine. :)

Want to know the exact expected damage for your fighter? (DND 3e)

Uh.. No! Your 2 weapon fighting program probably doesn't count the effects of sneak attack, or weapons that do extra dice (flaming burst, etc). Add those back in and suddenly 2 weapon fighting looks a lot better. Giving the ranger that feat would make Ranger/Rogues over powered.

    Price-Sensitive Gamers

As the one who proposed that super deluxe product idea last year, I'm certainly glad to hear others chiming in about how they'd want one. I'm still waiting for a publisher to do one (hey John, are you listening?), though given the wait, I might have to go write one myself. But while the cost of...

    Price-Sensitive Gamers

Most people get into the game without veterans dragging them in. Actually, to DM D&D 3e, all you really need is the Players Handbook and the Sunless Citadel. The Sunless Citadel came out before the Monster Manual, so all the monsters were statted. The only thing missing is the experience point...

    Price-Sensitive Gamers

I don't see it happening any time soon, given the economics. If you take a look at say, the Lord of the Rings adventure game, that's selling at $40. Not only that, but it's selling well according to the folks at Decipher. Compare with the Players Handbook at $30, and I think you'll see that the...

I've always been cheap So the minimum discount it would take to hook me has been Amazon.com's 30% off with free shipping. (It turns out to be 35% for me, since I use an eCard (http://www.getecard.com), which offers an additoinal 5% off) Lately, I've been wondering why I bother buying stuff...

[OT, but fantasy-related] Have you seen the film The Whole Wide World?

It's a great movie, a good date flick, and a tragic story. I enjoyed it much more than "A Beautiful Mind", which wasn't as true to Nash as "Whole Wide World" was to Howard.

    I F'in HATE AMAZON!!!!

setting expectations for Amazon.com I've discovered that free shipping and 30% off does wonders for my patience. If you're in a hurry, Amazon.com is a bad bet. On the other hand, gaming items are luxury items. You won't die without them, so there's no sense is getting worked up about when they...
