We finished our D&D 3e campaign

Well, you gotta remember that for about levels 1-10 I had more than the standard number of PCs. (The game started with 7 PCs, and ended with 4 PCs) That would slow down the experience gained since the XP is split more ways. More players also mean more roleplay/interaction time, which would also...

We finished our D&D 3e campaign

My game was set in Greyhawk, and they definitely didn't feel wrong in Greyhawk. Lich Queen's Beloved has no drow, just Githyanki. (One of the opening encountes is CR 25!)

We finished our D&D 3e campaign

I ran the original. (If you look up some of the "official" conversions of the original ToEE, you'll see my name as the author of the very first one...) I ran the Maure Castle Dungeon adventure, since I didn't have Mordenkainen's Fantastic adventure. The party did not encounter Iuz or Zuggtomoy...

to screen or not to screen do you roll in front of your players?

Screen for notes and sense motive checks... Attack rolls, saving throws, and all other rolls get made in front of the players. They really enjoy it when I roll a 1 for a massive damage fort save for a big bad a monster.

We finished our D&D 3e campaign

PC, you're probably much more capable of running high level monsters and NPCs than I am! Past 6th level spells, I had to look in the book for nearly every NPC spell that they could cast. Temple: - village of hommlet was really a lot of fun. A lot of great roleplaying, and very very dangerous...

We finished our D&D 3e campaign

Tonight, the party found and destroyed the Lich Queen's phylactery, ending a 3.5 year game that started in October 2001. There were 4 players at the end, and they all reached 20th level with an 18th level cohort. Being a busy professional who spends his weekends doing outdoor activities rather...

Ten observations on Castles & Crusades compared to d20.

Ouch! That means that you'd be silly to play a human past 5th level! I hated that the most about 2e/1e haste rules.

    Black Company: Errata?

I noticed a lot of missing sentences, etc from the Black Company CS book. Is there an errata page somewhere that I can't find?

    Firefly bores me...

That's the thing. The written Chinese on the show was completely, 100% correct! Someone did their job there, but apparently the speech experts did not bother to hold up their end. And then you view the commentary and realize that the makers of the show actually thought they were being true to...

    Firefly bores me...

It is Mandarin, but their language experts (if they can be called that) need a hard spanking. As a native speaker, most of the spoken Chinese was either incomprehensible or so badly enunciated that it could hardly be recognized. Sure, it's hard to teach a tonal language, but the result on...

Recomend me a good online place to buy RPG stuff from.

buying from Amazon.com Don't forget to join the "Share the Love" thread, which gives you discounts on what other EnWorlders are buying as well. (Unfortunately, that can lead to lots of buying...) I've bought from eBay as well, but that tends to be good only after a few months after the street...

    Longest Campaign

My game... ... started in October 2001 (when I resumed playing after a 13 year hiatus), and we're about to wrap it up at the end of January/February this year with the PCs defeating the Lich Queen (with the Dungeon #100 adventure). Only one of the players who started the campaign is still with...

Do 4 million people really play D&D on a regular basis?

Sounds right. I've been involved in 4 groups with about 15 players or so, and so far, have only encountered 1 dragon subscriber, and he quickly unsubscribed after the crunch he tried to bring over from the magazine got banned from the games. On the other hand, we have 3 folks who subscribe to...

Do 4 million people really play D&D on a regular basis?

It's once a month, I believe. You have to play at least once a month to be considered "regular." My suspicion is that if you play less than once a month, you're unlikely to be a consumer of RPG books. (i.e., you're not likely to buy any more RPGs) In the software industry, there's a similar...

3e and the Test of Time

I think your nostalgia is blinding you to the "distinctive quirks" of AD&D and OD&D that the rest of us remember and hate: - parties where everyone was an elf, since elves were unbalanced with respect to the standard races - games where all 10th level fighters were identical! - games that...

Is the RPG Industry on Life Support? (Merged w/"Nothing Dies")

The same here! I quit D&D when I went to college (2 part time jobs and a full time class load), and didn't come back until a year after 3E first came out (2001). I started a campaign then which is now only reaching the end (with the PCs at 18th level). I started with the red box D&D Basic set...

Why _DON'T_ You Buy Dragon Magazine?

    1. I can't buy it for crunch. Dragon magazine has a bad reputation for unbalanced prestige classes and other feats. But even if the crunchy material was balanced, it would still be difficult to introduce it into a group unless the all the players had a subscription, and that's just too much to...

Redo 2: Select the ONE non d20 game you would play?

DC Heroes! What a great game. Ok, I actually think Mutants and Masterminds might be just that bit better. Nobilis would be worth trying too.
