    Luck hates monks

Monks are bad luck? One of my players had a Barbarian who died repeatedly due to hold person and other will save effects. So he created a Dwarven monk --- a great front-line fighters, great touch AC, awesome saves. Unfortunately, there was one time when he got possessed by a spirit, and nearly...

    "Gaming Divorce"

booting players I've booted players from my game: - one was a style clash - one didn't bathe No regrets. In fact, I find that the sooner you realize that someone doesn't fit, and the sooner you boot them, the easier the process is. The important thing is: (1) to explain it isn't personal...

    GRIMM: Full Treatment ... non-d20?

GRIMM non-d20? No! I have a copy of the mini-game and it's great. But I'm definitely not buying a non-d20 game! I'm happy to run it as a 6 level mini-game.

Down with the negativity! Tell me what you like about 3E.

3E got me a job... 3E brought me back into RPGs after 10 years of hiatus. Coincidentally, the first group I DM'd ended up with a bunch of players who worked for Google, and one thing led to another and before I knew it I ended up working there... :)

What Unearthed Arcana variants have you used? What did you think of them?

I've been very impressed by Unearthed Arcana I bought it on a 60% Amazon.com discount, and it's really got great stuff that I plan to use in my next campaign: - craft points (I don't like giving PCs any downtime :-) - action points (and several other things that I've forgotten about)

    Masks of Nyarlathothep d20 Conversion!

Thanks! I have to get a CoC d20 group together before I do any more conversion work. As you can imagine, the only reason I put in as much as I did was because there was the promise of being published. Now that CoC d20 is for all purposes defunct, any work I do for the game will most likely be...

    Comic recommendations?

I highly recommend "Thieves and Kings" Sheesh, a D&D forum and nobody's mentioned Thieves and Kings yet? It's a fantastic series (currently running up to 4 volumes collected, but with more coming out bimonthly), and worthy of fantasy lovers' attention.

Is there a need for a simplified D&D?

Indeed. However, D&D is a game, while David and Goliath is a story. It seems to me that you don't really want to play a game, and that you'd rather be a novelist. There's nothing wrong with that, but clearly, D&D is not for you. It seems to me that any game with rules at all can be exploited...

Am I the only 3.0 grognard left?

We started out with 3.0, played to around 10th-11th level and switched to 3.5 after the party got spanked by the "harm/magic missile" trick. The players wanted to re-jigger their characters and the 3.5 switch made it worthwhile. We don't really use any supplements except the Books of Eldritch...

Hero: So what did you think?

And history affirms the judgement that he was a tyrant. After he united China, he burned lots of books, continued killing lots of people, and ended up on in the history books as having one of the bloodiest reigns in history. About the only thing one could say in his favor was that he...

What Level Adventure Module Do You Most Need?

Another vote for high level adventures ... low level adventures are easy to whip up. It's high level NPCs, stats, and story lines that can withstand all the high level divinations that's difficult. I'm having the darnest time finding adventures for my 16th level PCs.

    Dungeon 112: Castle Maure comments?

Running a group of 16 level characters through it... ... with no modifications. They're finding it an easy romp so far on the first level (the terrible iron golem went down in 2 rounds), but I expect they'll start getting stiffened challenges later...

Why all the Second Edition Haters?

I don't hate 2e I didn't hate 2e. I just dropped out of RPGs just as 2e hit, and came back a year after 3e. From what I could tell, I didn't miss much going from 1e to 3e. :)

[Shackled City] Help! My Players get too much XP!

Don't do anything I've not found this to be a problem. If you let nature take its course, you'll discover that this means they'll breeze through the first few encounters of the next adventure in the series, while reaping much fewer xp than they otherwise would from those encounters, so...
