The fighter and the paladin pretty well ganged up on the knight & stole his stuff

I'm looking forward to the day I can have CE paladin whose credo is "I do what I want, when I want to. Anyone who complains about that will suffer my wrath," and who takes down governments.

The fighter and the paladin pretty well ganged up on the knight & stole his stuff

Yep. And he might even be NE! Think about that. A tiefling paladin devoted purely to the cause of Evil, pain, and suffering in their purest forms. Not your typical holy roller.

    D&D: Adventurers, Not Heroes

I know 32 pt. buy is the standard for at least one WotC d20 game. (d20 modern. Even NPCs get 25 pt. in that game, so yeah.. ) I don't know if it is for Saga, but point buy in general appears to be used a lot. (I believe all of the WotC-ran Living Campaigns use Point Buy, and it IS a standard DMG...

    Align this character.

LE or CE. Definitely evil, though the "Well Intentioned" type.

Then I shall go one further: Team Go: Hego - Defender/Leader Shego - Striker Wego - Controller/Striker Mego - Striker (though not really much of one) Team Impossible: Dash - Defender/Controller Crash - Striker/Leader (he's a medical doctor) Burn - Controller/Striker?

The fighter and the paladin pretty well ganged up on the knight & stole his stuff

I'm just looking at it from the idea of a mechanical hole. However, I agree that the cleric is kind of.. strange. The Cloistered Cleric seems like a better fit, but I think I like the AE magister a little better, as it combines the blasty and the healy into the same class.

    D&D: Adventurers, Not Heroes

For one thing, if you want that, you could always treat NPCs as the equivalent of the PCs, only giving them stats that aren't quite so good. So if your PCs run 32 pt. buy, then run NPCs under the elite array, or under the non-elite array, but still better than 10s and 11s across the board. So...

    Sex and Sexuality in D&D. . .

Aye. I noticed that you and Danny both mentioned Inanna just after posting. Either way, sex and violence have tended to go together in some cultures. I don't really consider Greek god(desse)s to be good examples, because ALL of them are sex god(desse)s so it's not really fair, but it is another...

    Sex and Sexuality in D&D. . .

Also there was Inanna. The first goddess of sex we see in literature... and the first goddess of war too. She was also noted for sleeping around. So.. for her, Paladin temple prostitutes would be... fairly likely. Especially as she wasn't a mother goddess.. and was noted for being very prone to...

    D&D: Adventurers, Not Heroes

Because most players who want to play D&D want to play badasses. So it's much easier to make the baseline set to "Badass" and make things scale up in badassery from there than setting it to "pitiful weakling" and making players feel that they are in fact badasses. Adventurers, insofar as most...

The fighter and the paladin pretty well ganged up on the knight & stole his stuff

Oh, I get that bards, rangers, druids, and paladins are probably more archetypal than the D&D cleric. However, the cleric is what it is because nothing else can fit the niche. But I've always seen them as a bit of 'specialized roles within a more general specialty' type of deals. Part of it is...

The fighter and the paladin pretty well ganged up on the knight & stole his stuff

Personally, I love the idea that the Knight class's mechanics are getting taken by the pally and the fighter. I'm not sure where I'd want them split, but it seems like a great idea. Marshal -> Pally w/ some Fighter and Knight -> Fighter w/ some Pally seems like they would be great ways to take...

    New Texas Monsters

Then, you have the Winter Solstice celebrations and even more gladiatorial games, lasting at least till just after midwinter. However, generally, I don't think they later ones would be local, so the attendees would have to trek to the seat of government to find a caravan going to the later...

    D&D 4E The Quadratic Problem—Speculations on 4e

One possibility to keep the power-growth higher than linear but less than quadratic would be linear + logarithmic. Since it is the nearest of the infinite-growth curves to being a bounded function, a logarithm helps when you want to create a 'maximum' power level that continuously grows, but you...

What do you like about Planescape?

To quote TarionzCousin: Ah, I learn something every day. Also, now that I think about it, I've loved what I've seen of DiTerlizzi's artwork. It does have great atmosphere. Very beautiful and very fantastic.

Complete Disagreement With Mike on Monsters (see post #205)

I would argue that Pun-Pun is basically the result of not systematizing monster design and making it more PC-ish. No sane designer should give players the chance to give other players any ability ever, and to do this insane feat so over and over again. Yet somehow, one designer DID. It was...

Using magic to imitate real-world technology

First, I'd figure out what tech I want to mimic. Not all tech is probably reasonable to mimic, though certainly some bits are. Then, I'd go and figure out if any spells existed that pretty much exactly mimicked the tech I was trying to mimic. If so, I'd just build a magic item with that spell...
