Where have all the heroes gone?

The zombies thing is certainly out of line. However, that's the line at which I say "Goodbye. This campaign just ended," and look for other people. I won't make up in-character reasons that their fantasies won't happen.. I just won't play with the players.

Where have all the heroes gone?

Another thing about the sort of "Shining Armor Hero" type is that, ultimately, to be interesting, they MUST have a dramatic tragedy. That can be a 'fall from grace', an 'ultimate failure', a moral dilemma, (BBEG: "save the world or save your sister. you choose." is an example of this kind of...

How many of you actually use the term "buff" in game?

I don't see why adventuring groups wouldn't eventually develop oddball codes, cant, and other means of disguising intent from lawful au.. err... opposing forces. Speed of communication is always good to have in battle.

New spell feat and accompanying rules- Synergetic Spellcasting

I don't know how balanced this is, but it certainly seems cool, and something that makes cooperative magery useful in-game. However, these spells need an 'effective level' for purpose of figuring out spell level-based effects, like globe of invulnerability. The idea certainly sounds very good...

    Are dice perfectly balanced?

Note, there are people who can significantly "de-balance" dice. The technique is called "forcing" and skilled users can prevent specific numbers from showing up 90% of the time or better. That said, I can't roll above a 4 or below a 17 to save my life, and it's always the worse of the two for...

    Cool ideas for cities required

A city which exists only in time. In order to find the city, you must know 3 things: 1) it's physical location at a specific timeframe, what time you are now at, and how fast time flows. A city in which the inhabitants look like normal humans by day, but appear to be undead ghouls by night.

    Twenty-Sided Pie

Now we know what that orc's guarding in Monte's module. I wonder if it's an artifact pie?

    New Game: Arcana Evolved!

I believe it's Ambidexterity and TWF. However, you only get ONE additional attack, and that's it. There's no ITWF/GTWF/PTWF so that you eventually get 8 attacks per full attack. You max out at 5. And you can also get two Medium-sized weapons at -0/-0 but it requires an additional feat, for a...

    Whirlwind Attack and Great Cleave

Summon Monster II used to summon 1d4+1 monsters on the Summon Monster I list.

    Cultural Substitution Levels

No, but certainly many of the lower level long term buffs and a few of the more powerful attack spells worth using in a sorceror are taken away. Since spell selection's so limited, you generally want buffs that offer a significant scale in power and won't require waiting 6-7 levels to get to the...

    New Game: Arcana Evolved!

Yeah, it's almost universal, if you want to play a reasonably effective 'thane at low levels. (Runic Weaps help too, just... be careful in giving them out to high level 'thanes.)

    New Game: Arcana Evolved!

What runes were you using? If you know how, you can pretty well ensure massive damage or battlefield control. (Just wondering...)

PHB II - the new kinds of spell

However, in reality, Conjuration gets umpteen non-combat spells that render it useful outside of battle while evocation has... Light and it's ilk. And that's about it. Conjurations also net you summons (which are a great way of dealing w/ immune creatures like golems, for example) and...

    Cultural Substitution Levels

The paladin looks pretty good, the sorceror... I'm not sure about. Are you using the Cloistered Cleric as the 'main' Cleric class and banning the druid? Otherwise, with the severe lack of armor/self-buff spells, there's very few ways for the sorceror to keep himself/herself/itself reasonably...

    New Game: Arcana Evolved!

Runethanes at high levels (15+) can be incredibly potent, and if the DM's not careful about his game, can easily start doing damage in excess of 40d6 a round without expending much in the way of XP, gp, or spell slots. This makes runes incredibly deadly in the hands of someone looking for...

    Academic D&D ?

OK, there ARE a few D&D settings out there with some philosophical bents: Planescape, for one, is classically part existential philosophy, part quasi-Renaissance urban fantasy, part linkage for every campaign setting, and part general trippiness. Heck, in the most common 'sub-setting' for...

Elves and fluff, which elf do you prefer?

The Gentry are modeled after the Sidhe of legend, with very little variation. Fae are MEANT to be creepy, IMO. Human-like but definitely not human. Thus, I picked the Sidhe as my preferred Elf. The Norse Alfar are really closer to the Elves of D&D than the Sidhe are, though. I don't mind the...

    Make up some funny quotes!

"Fireball doesn't make fire, does it?" -- G'rak, Troll Sorceror "There are three things a seasoned adventurer wants to get: the loot, the girl, and out when the going's good." -- Captain Tarris of the Grennish Mercenary Corps "Remember, first you kill things THEN you take their loot." --...
