Has Wizards of the Coast Given Up on Sigil?

USA Today. Dungeon Craft's video reviews them.

Has Wizards of the Coast Given Up on Sigil?

It's interesting that the big story right before this broke was about the sales of physical books and how incredibly below expectations they are for 5.5. It literally made the rounds with the receipts all over the internet earlier this week. But, we were told, WotC didn't actually care because...

D&D General No One Reads Conan Now -- So What Are They Reading?

I don't think you live in the same world I do. Men's reading habits have fallen dramatically from what they used to be at exactly the same time that that, to the extent that it was ever true (in my experience it wasn't) it became significantly less true. Men were always encouraged by society to...

D&D General No One Reads Conan Now -- So What Are They Reading?

There's a pretty good chance that you've got the cause and effect backwards there, though. Books that target mens' interest have been (relatively) few and far between, and that's a change that has happened in my lifetime.

D&D General No One Reads Conan Now -- So What Are They Reading?

That's a just-so story, and I reject it as a false null hypothesis, and can't be assumed to be true until proven. In my anecdotal experience, its at least as relevant as it was 10-20 years ago, when people were complaining that all the kids did was read D&D fiction instead of "the classics."...

D&D 5E (2014) For those playing 2014 5e, how are you reacting to the 2024 update?

If it were up to me, we wouldn't play either. But the group that I joined after relocating is 5e, and they have absolutely no intention of even looking at 5.5.

D&D General Why grognards still matter

Yeah, anyone who sees the word minority and automatically defaults to "ethnic minority" in their heads... You're the problem.

Different philosophies concerning Rules Heavy and Rule Light RPGs.

If you like. I meant it as an element of flippant rhetoric. True enough, but not pedantically speaking "true."

D&D General Why grognards still matter

Movie franchises absolutely have to focus on the hardcore fan, but not in such a way that they exclude the casuals and tourists. But if the hardcore guys don't like it, then there's no good word of mouth, and the casuals and tourists never show up. The problem isn't the argument, its the fact...

Different philosophies concerning Rules Heavy and Rule Light RPGs.

I've decided, I think, that the great dividing line between gamers on matters of taste is structure. On one pole, we have folks who are fundamentally skeptical of GMs and their authority. They don't trust it, either because they don't trust the GM to treat them fairly, or because they just...

You're approached by a Hollywood exec...

Yes, I've seen them. Or, at least the first one. The question explicitly refers to adaptations that weren't successful, and given that Gor was kind of a direct to video chump that hardly anyone knows about, I think it qualifies.

    D&D 5E (2024) Do We Really Need Levels 11-20?

I don't need them. Sounds like based on data, hardly anyone else needs them. I'm in favor of making them outside of the "core" rules, kinda like how Epic Level Handbook did it in 3e.

Gor, just to troll them. Either that or Thundarr the Barbarian.

D&D 5E (2014) Why Do Higher Levels Get Less Play?

Seems like it's missing the main option; the game doesn't scale well and is too tedious to enjoy at that level, even if you want to.

D&D Movie/TV Netflix Planning Forgotten Realms D&D TV Show With Stranger Things Producer

🤷 Then it didn't find a big enough audience. That's what you get for using Netflix, I suppose. A lower budget show on a hungrier streamer probably has a better chance.

    Your table is YOUR table.

I'm not asking if the books are going to send zoomers to the fainting couches, I'm wondering if they are well enough structured that they don't feel hoaky and like kids books. I imagine that they probably do, but given that I was probably about ten or eleven the last time I read one, my...

D&D Movie/TV Netflix Planning Forgotten Realms D&D TV Show With Stranger Things Producer

Not really. There's a lot of narrative around performance of shows, and strange claims of oddly specific metrics. That's a major red flag that actually the show isn't performing well and they're trying to pretend like it's doing better than it actually is. Checking the actual ratings is crucial...

D&D 5E (2014) Dungeoncraft Interview with Mike Mearls

Indeed, I played ONE campaign that went from 1st level to 23rd level or so, Age of Worms, during the 3.5 era. Didn't enjoy it, wouldn't do it again. The campaign was fine. The higher level combat was tedious.

    Your table is YOUR table.

Sorta. Edward Stratemeyer created the Hardy Boys, and he's American. Charles Leslie MacFarlane is Canadian, and it's believed that he ghost wrote the first sixteen novels. But given that he isn't even confirmed to have written them, he (or his estate) doesn't hold the copyright. I read quite a...
