D&D 5E (2024) Not loving weapon mastery with beginners

Again, if that is your experience I think your group is doing something wrong. Common occurrences, with the correct descriptive flare, need not be boring. And it is easy enough to make hitting / dealing damage less likely too.

D&D General Multiple Officially Licensed Dungeons & Dragons Accessories Announced

We will have to agree to disagree on this one. I found the pictures in the link much more interesting. They seem possibly difficult to use as dice, but much more interesting just to look at.

D&D 5E (2024) Not loving weapon mastery with beginners

Not for me: 20+ years in I still enjoy hitting more than missing!

D&D 5E (2024) Not loving weapon mastery with beginners

As a player I find rolling damage much more rewarding than missing.

We do it a little different. We let HP work as intended, and the to-hit chance reflects that. However, at +10 is when you get a critical and that is the actual dangerous hit. That takes off of bloodied hit points, which you have much much less of. And it is still fantastic!

Not sure how this applies to weapon masteries or are you saying battlesmastrrs are already complex?

I will trust that has been your experience. It has just has not been mine.

Like I said, no issue for us, but we are. It new players.

D&D 5E (2024) Not loving weapon mastery with beginners

I’m guessing you don’t play with new players often (which the OP is taking about). IME, new players take forever to learn what spells do and to pick the spell they want to use. In our game with 4 out of 5 PCs adding weapon masteries we didn’t notice much change in game speed, but we are not new...

D&D 5E (2024) Josh Herman (Head of Art) Interview with Silver and Blue Dragon Art

I like the blue quite a bit, but miss the ears. I will say the concept art in the digital dragon book is better than most of what I have seen elsewhere.

D&D General D&D 2024 does not deserve to succeed

I could, but should not. I don’t think I should have written that in the first place. My mistake.

D&D General D&D 2024 does not deserve to succeed

You do seem to have more problems than about anyone else I know of though. Make one wonder.

    D&D 5E (2024) No disclaimer in the 2024 PHB?

The silly little disclaimer they had on every book.

    D&D 5E (2014) Radically shrinking stat blocks

That dragon is compact, but really hard to read unfortunately.

D&D 5E (2024) Forgotten Realms: Heroes of Faerûn

Then I guess you haven’t been following computer generated art much! IDK, but these look like in progress / concept art that WotC does, not final art

D&D 5E (2024) 2025's Ancient Green Dragon Stat Block From The New Monster Manual

My point is the CR calculator works and what Mearls is saying is using CR for encounter building doesn’t work. Those sre different things and can both be true. One is a system for determine a monsters CR. The other is a system for determining a combat’s difficulty. Which actually uses XP not...
