D&D 5E (2024) 2025's Ancient Green Dragon Stat Block From The New Monster Manual

I would suggest you don’t take any one image as the default standard. Many artist work these books and each one’s a different style or take on a creature. One image doesn’t reflect the design of the whole.

2025 Monster Manual Will Contain Over 85 New Monsters

I think maybe you should stop calling other people‘s fun boring. Something that is boring to you is not necessarily boring to someone else. People have different ideas of what is fun.

D&D 5E (2024) "D&D Monster Manual 2025 is going to pack a serious punch thanks to a family of monsters descended from gods, and frankly I’m terrified"(Gamesradar)

In 4e there was little practical difference in some cases. IIRC both Sekolah and Maglubiyet were both exarchs, but their stat blocks were comparable to the gods

D&D 5E (2024) "D&D Monster Manual 2025 is going to pack a serious punch thanks to a family of monsters descended from gods, and frankly I’m terrified"(Gamesradar)

I get that it can feel like an insult. However the very next paragraph is them admitting they misunderstood what you said. It is an explanation of why they said what they said. To me, from the outside, that looks like an apology. Regardless, you are free to engage or not with whomever you...

D&D 5E (2024) "D&D Monster Manual 2025 is going to pack a serious punch thanks to a family of monsters descended from gods, and frankly I’m terrified"(Gamesradar)

Animal lords do sound interesting. I hope they are better than the giant dinosaurs from Bigby’s. Those were disappointing. That is a good idea. I don’t think we will see it, but they could make it one stat block i with different traits and actions that are keyed by type/alignment. They did...

D&D General 5e D&D to OSR pipeline or circle?

This seems like a question for my DM, not me. The only reasons I can give is that is how we like to play? I don’t see anything in the rules of 5e for the players that hinder this style of play. Maybe what you’re talking about is in the DMG?

D&D General 5e D&D to OSR pipeline or circle?

Not a DM so I don’t know how you encourage that type of play, but I know as anold school player that plays 5e, it helps to play with people who’ll already play that way. Our group has always played the one OSR style and continued to do so in 4e and 5e.

D&D General 5e D&D to OSR pipeline or circle?

Well that is 100% how my DM runs 5e and we: Avoid combat If we can’t do #1 we prepare / plan as needed to make the combat advantages for us If we can’t do #1 or #2 we run!

I guess. Not my experience, but that could be true for you.

D&D General 5e D&D to OSR pipeline or circle?

I get that. My thought would be: don’t convert an existing OSR adventure for 5e, but to write a 5e adventure with an OSR mentality. I think that could get you closer to an OSR experience in 5e than converting.

Have you looked at shadowdark? Not sure about the “power level” but it seems to hit most of your points

D&D General 5e D&D to OSR pipeline or circle?

I disagree about 5e defeating an OSR playstyle or that it generally devolves to combat. Heck, there are even official 5e adventures that can be completely resolved without combat. Also, my group plays 5e like we played 1e. It is not that the game can’t be played that way, I think the issue is...

D&D General 5e D&D to OSR pipeline or circle?

Regarding adventures: I wonder why people aren’t making 5e adventures in the style of OSR adventures. Or are they and I am just unaware of them?

    D&D General Playstyle vs Mechanics

I strongly disagree! We jumped from 1E to 4E and played the two the same way. If anything I think 4E is more flexible in place styles traditional 1E, 3E, or 6E. People just got hung up on some things and somehow it squashed the creativity. That was not a problem for us.

    D&D General Playstyle vs Mechanics

I feel like we’ve played the same way from 1e all the way through 5e. Though I admit we skipped 2e and 3E. It just feels we play the way we want to play and the mechanics either work or we change them!
