I still like the first edition canine version, but the 3rd edition hybrid is growing on me...

What would you like to see in Dungeon?

I voted for Order of the Stick and Free Stuff, knowing that only one of those two is likely. I gotta say, though - how many posters actually read the magazine? My collection shows more plot hooks and little idea-let articles than ever before, lately. The magazine's very good now, and I hope...

    D&D Class Survivor -- Round 1

I'd be fine with bards if their spells weren't so lame... That said, I voted "Paladin". Especially what with Wizards pushing for moral relativism in their campaigns (e.g. Silver Flame in Eberron), I basically see these guys as Fighters with a mission. It'd be better if their powers were just...

Dice Survivor, Finale: d6 vs. d20

This is absurd... I mean, Go D20! WHOO-HOO!

Which PrCl would you never want in your game? (part 1 - DMG)

I don't have a beef with any of this, and while overpowered, I always dug the Dragon Disciple. (Granted, I've never DMed one, only played as one...heheh)

How do you use published adventures?

I generally modify store-bought modules to fit my campaign. For instance, I always found "Waterdeep" to be a little too clean cut for my Forgotten Realms campaign. Having grown up in a fairly urban harbor town, I wanted more grit to the City of cities in Faerun. When "Freeport" came out for...

Vote: The Best OD&D and B/ED&D Adventures!

Whaaat?!? No "B9 Castle Caldwell and Beyond"?!? Or what about Ed Greenwood's first D&D project, "CM something or other - The Endless Stair"? To be honest, most of the early adventures were completely hackneyed, but they'll always have that awesome nostalgia factor that made them so fun...

Defeated by puzzle - campaign over: Here is the offending puzzle!

You're a better man than I... So, there were no hard feelings on the DM ending an entire campaign because you couldn't read his mind? Anybody ever play 7th Guest? That was a great game built around puzzles. Myst? Great game built around puzzles. This isn't a great puzzle - it's a TPK in...

Defeated by puzzle - campaign over: Here is the offending puzzle!

Uh...how about roleplaying the puzzle solution? Everybody plays for different reasons. Lord knows I've been waaaay underwhelmed with many a campaign I've played in, and I'm sure that I've bored the socks off of folks who've played in my campaigns. But, it seems that if we're talking about two...

    Do you use minis?

I do both, too... Predominantly I buy pre-painted D&D minis, but I still do buy and paint plenty of Warhammer minis (although I've bought them less and less lately - that pile of "to paint" is just too dern big...) :p

What 1e/2e books are still useful to a 3rd edition DM?

Most of the early modules (esp. U1-2-3 and Temple of Elemental Evil...) are well worth the cash on Ebay. There's no big surprise to me that most of the most popular Neverwinter Nights conversions are the 1e modules - they were a blast. (Many total-party-kills in some of the klutzier ones, but...

    LOST 3/30/05 Spoilers!

All you really missed then was Locke back in the jungle, leaning over the pod, upset, and the light comes on in the pod. Oh yeah, and Locke's dad is a @%@#%)@#) who scammed him out of a kidney and then left him cold.

    D&D basic set ??

I've played it with my wife on occasion - she's not a gamer, and she finds its rules easier to understand than the bevy of 3e-itude. It's great for an afternoon game. Huzzah. :p Fwiw, the new basic set is a pretty good front-end for 3rd edition - I'm sure it'd work great for kids. Doesn't...

    Carnivale 02/20/05 - Spoilers!

It was a rollercoaster of an episode. I'm thinking that maybe they packed so much in (with so little exposition) to prevent the show from losing viewers. Some of the developments have been at a snail's pace, and I wouldn't be surprised if they're trying to play catch-up mid-season. Maybe the...

Dragon Magazine & Dungeon Magazine on CD

Of course it's not clear - it's a legal matter. ;) Some folks with more publishing experience than I have already posted, but yes, printing the magazines in whole (ads, art, articles, etc.) would involve owning or acquiring permission to print the whole kit-n-kaboodle - a very expensive...

Eberron: Whispers of the Vampire's Blade

I agree. I'm prepping to run this adventure for my Eberron party, and I feel a little ripped off. I would've rather had something that tied into the first adventure directly, instead of a "Part 2" that is no where near as clever as Part I. Maybe Grasp of the Emerald Claw will bring it all...

How have minis impacted your game?

It's funny - the more things change, the more they stay the same. When I started out playing original basic d&d and 1e with my older brother when we were kids, the use of minis made the game almost like a tactical wargame. (The fact that the characters were largely nearly immortally powerful...

    Gaming Stores north of Boston

As a former New England gamer, I'd recommend just popping on the highway down to beantown and visiting the Compleat Strategist. I honestly don't know the shops north of Boston, but Strategist (although small) generally has the new stuff, the classics, and the staff there are top notch. Also...

    Exploding Whales

Uh, wow, I know this is the off topic forum, but this is waaaaay off topic. ;) Fwiw, I first saw this story on the Internet in '95, and have since seen at least two "real video" type shows on TV that have aired this thing as if it were a recent event worth noting. I think it's just going...

Um... Just how lazy are some people?

In the northeast we've got Nathan's and Nedick's hot dog chains. There's also a few that are New England centric. But yes, none of them are as massively popular as say Burger King or KFC.
