No Frequency for Monsters?! (just noticed!)

Shouldn't it be Knowledge (Underdark), Knowledge (Underground Nature), or Knowledge (Caverns)? Seems that Knowledge (Dungeoneering) that includes spelunking as well as nautral things makes it more of a Profession skill than a knowledge. Spelunking probably shoud be covered under Survival just as...

No Frequency for Monsters?! (just noticed!)

Ya, it bugs me. I've looked for it several times while trying to make up encounter charts and such. Since its not there, I just have to make them up myself and it would have been much easier to alter something that was already written out than make up a whole new monster attribute from scratch...

    Magical Academies?

Since I use the RL map for my homebrew, one is in Paris and one is in Thessaloniki (Greece). These correspond to the Eastern and Western empires that dominated history of my world and were in or near the capitols. The only other place that had the population, the resources, and the wealth to have...

    Magical Academies?

In my hombrew, there are two. They act much like ivy leaue schools and entrance has more to do with who you know or are than ability or even money. First come legacies, then members of important or rich families that give moeny to the school. After that, the most intellegent or most likely to do...

What to see at a mage fair?

Who is throwing it? Why? How fantastical is your world? I imagine that it will be thrown by wizard's to get together and meet. The main attraction for wizards will be a chance to get together and talk and exchange knowledge and spells. This will probably take place inside the hosting wizard's...

Does 3/3.5E cause more "rule arguments" than earlier editions?

I would say no change. Even if they are easier to understand and apply to more situations, the main factor in arguements is the stuborness of the people involved, not the rules in question.

I want to do something cool Every Round!!!

Essentially, he seems to be talking about wizards out of the core four classes. Maybe clerics. Fighters have all their feats. Rogues have all their skills. Clerics have fighting abilites after spells give out. Wizards are sort of useless. Seems like one way to fix that would be to add new...

    Core Rules Only

Not true. The MM has plenty of information for playing many other races as PCs. My homebrew is non-core resistant but makes good use of those.

    How Defined is Your Magic?

I see the spells in the PHB to be the most common of the spells that are wide and far known. Published spells from other sources (let's say only WotC and Paizo) are spells that are rarer and known by fewer mages, possbily none. They could be learned from other mages if those mages were tracked...

    New Halfling Favoured Class?

I voted Rogue just because I'm a traditionalist, but the first class I looked for was Commoner. I like my hobbits to be humble agrarians.

    How Defined is Your Magic?

We call them Frostballs. Typically, I allow the PCs to research and develop any spell the wish. Even encourage it. Spells the learn atleveling up however will be normal spells as will most that they can find though NPCs. If they want something non-standard, they will have to develop it...

Creating a govement based on D&D reality

I think "peasant uprisings" are quite probable. Piss somebody off enough and they will riot and revolt, especially if it already looks like they are going to die due to starvation or what not. I doubt if most uprisings happened because those people thought they had a serious chance of causing...

Tell me about the 1E AD&D DMG

They were also pretty interchangeable. Didn't have an extra 2E PHB to see if you leveled up? Just use 1E. Later you can always go back and correct anything you do later when no one else is using it. Although all my gaming groups (which was about 5 groups and 3 different sets of people in...

Creating a govement based on D&D reality

I would disagree, especially in large melees. If you're a fighter in the third rank back of a unit. Your first rank has fallen and the second is getting worn down and you think the outcome is fortold. You can run instead of step up. Enemy forces cannot chase you or they will suffer AoO from your...

    OotS #351

My question is did Thog crit Elan and put him into negative causing him to black out, or is there a feat that allows fighters to knock people out with a martial weaon as a special attack? I suppose he could have been doing nonleathel damage and critted to put him under. ...or was this just DM fiat?

Creating a govement based on D&D reality

I would disagree with that in that I think that taxes and trade would still make much more money than adventuring. The yearly income for a decently sized kingdom should be in the millions of gold peice value. Even if 95% goes to upkeep, it would still leave the king with at least several hundred...

Skills That Should be Handy for an Adventurer...But Aren't in Actual Play.

There are ways around having the adventure come to a screeching halt just because the players don't have an approriate skill but still use the skill in the adventure. You could have side areas that might require the skill so that the ability to use the skill provides a bonus but not does not...

    Another Paladin Thread: Throw Rocks!

Nitpick: Killing is the taking of life. An unlawful (and therfore unjustified) killing is murder. The question does come down to if the killing was unlawful or not. Some say yes. Some say no. I still find your explaination lacking. The previous posted prisoner dilema where one can never...

    Another Paladin Thread: Throw Rocks!

See, I read all that as supporting the paladin's actions. She is being altruistic by being out in the wilderness putting her life on the line to stop evil s that others may sit at home with their families. While she repects all life, the life that needs to be saved would be the life that also...
