What Historical Analogous Era is your campaign set in?

I'm shooting for a European equivilant to 1250. That's for humans anyway. The elven and dwarven civilizations exist more at a Renaissance level and are the source of common D&Disms that might not fit the 1250 time period.

Does D&D even have a component of "midieval" anymore?

Cure Disease wouldn't be the deciding factor in such cases, but rather Commune and other divination magic. When you can play 20 Questions with your god about whatever subject you want, especially when dealing with something killing lots of their followers, the root of the problem can be gotten...

Monte Cooks WoD is for 3.5

It'll be interesting to see how he does it and what he comes up with. I've been working on WoD type vampires for my homebrew D&D world. I was going with a template gained when turned into a vampire and then a choice of taking levels in a vampire PrC and feat chains of the typical discipline...

Monte Cooks WoD is for 3.5

They stil have plenty to fear. I've never seen vamps shug off gunfire in oWoD as they do in movies. Those hits, even if halved, add up quick. They may be able to take a calculated risk and figure they can take a hit or two in the combat, but I've also seen them fail that soak roll and be put out...

Monte Cooks WoD is for 3.5

Not really. While bullets do cause damage in primary cavitization, they are primarily peircing weapons. Death is caused by blood loss when the damage isn't to the brain or spinal column. In that vampires don't bleed unless very singnificant damage is done to them, taking half damage from guns...

Does D&D even have a component of "midieval" anymore?

Depends on the DM. I've had games where everything was medieval down to the food, tech, and laws, and I've been in campagins where it really was 'modern in medieval drag' with equivilants of anything you would want in a modern game. Most of the adventures as published are probably not medieval...

Are the Scarlet bro's and Iuz holding GREYHAWK back?

I don't see it. Getting rid of them serves no purpose unless the actual reason is to bring in something else you like better, and that would be just a matter of aesthetics. If anything is holding back the setting, it would be any and all good and neutral kingdoms, not the bad ones. If you really...

How to begin a war-based campaign?

Players are in a group of refugees. Somebody attackes. PCs being PCs attack back while everybody else runs away. PCs win and refugees come back expecting the players to lead them. Once they reach the city, the refugees tell the city guard what happened in inflated terms and the city leaders...

    LGS in Vancouver-Seattle-Portland!

Another vote for The Dreaming in Seattle (my favorite) as well as Gary's Games which has a huge used section of RPGs. I don't think anybody has mentined Powell's City of Books 9 www.powellsbooks.com 1005 W Burnside St, Portland - (503) 228-4651 ) which is a huge new and used book store. By huge...

Fish Stories: What's the best bluff you've ever gotten away with?

One player had ended up sneaking into the castle and stealing the (gold and gem encrusted) royal seal which ends up being searched for. Other player decides its a really bad idea to have this seal and trys to return it which results in killing a gaurd who attacked him when he shows up with the...

    Creature body parts?

I've been thinking about a system that despends on a generic monster type, hit die, and special abilities formula rather than specific monster and parts there of. That would make it easier to keep track of because it would be generic rather than than a long list of specific parts for use as...

    Levels IRL

I've always equated level 1 with a college graduate. Finished training but no real experience. That's with minimum work as some people may do thing outside such as jobs or such and be at a higher level upon graduation, but the college expereince is meant to get you to 1st level equivilent...

    RPGs with the Best ART

I'll put in for 2E Vampire: the Masquerade products. It had a variety of styles with a variety of quality, but overall, like the product itself, even where there was a failing technical quality, it still had a quality and spirit that showed through. Then I'll put in for 1E DMG for similar...

Horrible games that you couldn't resist. . .

Hol, of course. Just for the art and to read the rules. Pie Shop - The serial killer role-playing game. Dubious premise, bad Alice in Wonderland stock art, probably only a few thousand original words total, but novel enough for me to instantly buy when I saw it. it does contain the d20 Serial...

    Homebrew worlds and "borrowing"...

I borrow as little as possible. I try to fit in things from the rule books such as races and classes, but not other campaigns. The only real overt thing I've borrowed is the 1E D&D non-humn dieties and I've changed them in pretty much everything but name and race. No thoughts of being the next...

    Enemy-less adventures?

Another one I've been thinking about developing rules for would be financial deals. Taking mechandise from one city to another and selling for a profit would be a higher CR than just traveling the distance alone. CR for the deal can be figured in reverse by comparing either the profit or total...

Mules! -- Huh! -- What are they good for?

Use mules all the time, particularly at low levels. Low levels the mules typically have as many or more hit points than the party and make good "bullet sheilds". They carry all the stuff that would fit in bags of holding if the party could afford them. You upgrade to horses if you need speed on...

    OotS 452

Somebodies got to go collect Roy's body and get it to safety so it can be raised. I honestly don't think they're winning this one. IIRC, they did get the name of the city with the gate that Xyclon is going to next. That will probably be meaningful, but it wouldn't be if he was defeated here. My...

Playing a wizard at low levels

Buy a crossbow. Spend the XP at early levels to make scrolls to use once you run out of spells. Knowledges and other skills can help the party since you'll have some skill points for it.

How do you Retcon your Campaign Settings?

Either start a new campaign, or just used "poof" method and changed over without every worrying about how, why, or any other explaination.
