    Improving the gaming industry

I largely agree with you here. There are little things the "Industry" can do to help things along, though. Things like demos and fan clubs. A few of the bigger companies do this, but many of them are just lip service and don't have aggressive polices. This problem is grounded in a bigger...

    Dancey resigns as GAMA Treasurer

On Dancy- So far this is still all a "he said/she said" mess to me. When the whole thing comes out in the open, then i'll see. Assuming i ever care enough to research it myself. What i know for sure about Ryan Dancy is that he did one really great thing for D&D and gaming in general. Does this...

    Iron Kingdoms - Available?

I ordered it and should get it within the week. I was a bit torqued off about the constant scheduling crapola, but it doesn't really matter. I want these two books badly. I don't know how their poor management will affect the rest of the products they release, however. I want the two main books...

Discussion of HARP (as requested by PirateCat)

Harp does look like RM ran into that talent book the ICE put out a while back. :) My only thought at the moment is.....it seems like the Cultures, Professions and Packages would run into each other, each trying to get the same thing done. At least Packages and Professions seems like two...

manual of the Planes vs. the new Plannar Handbook.

the MOTP is one of my favorite all time rpg books. I got the Planar Handbook. Its okay. Get the MOTP before you get the PLHB, though.

The Chronicles of Prydain: What would you use from it, and how?

Ummm................The Horned King....yeah, baby, yeah!! :) I loved Gurgi's pouch of endless food. I've used that more than once in my campaigns, i tell you. I think those books truly sold me on how awesome True Names are. Nothing like screaming an enemies True Name and have them melt before...

Should players be allowed to compete for godhood?

Another option would be for the player's god to annoint the player to demi-god status to serve as a god in his/her portfolio. Mortals have ascended to lesser diety status before and remain in the service of their greater power. They don't necessarily have to kill the other gods to gain godly...

Cyberpunk 2020 image. Where's it from, and who's it by?

This DHW has some similiar artwork throughout the 2013 books, but the pages are not listed in the credits and nothing about who DHW is or might be is mentioned. You'll probably have to go to R.Talsorian Games website and forums to ask. The artists given credit in the books are Sam Liu, Scott...

Planar Binding - How have you used it in your game?

Ironically enough, i find it getting used against me far more than i use it myself. But then i rarely play wizards or sorcerers. I know this, it can be a pain in the ever-loving rump if you're not prepared (strategy and equipment wise) for it. I do think its one of the cooler magics in D&D. :)

    Why Prestige Classes?

Well said :) I go farther and say that assassins don't offer stealthy murder any more so than a rogue, other than their death attack, which could (and should be IMHO, as is in my campaigns, natch) be a Rogue Special Ability, if not feat. If they wanted spellcasting, 3 or 5 levels of wizard...

    Why Prestige Classes?

I'm not a deconstructionist, i swear! :p As would Rogue. Make Death Attack a special ability for rogue and the prestige class becomes useless. Well, except for spellcasting, which know that all assassins have. We just plain disagree on this one, my friend. I haven't seen a prestige...

    Why Prestige Classes?

I agreed with you all the way up to this point. I am glad there isn't a feat that makes wizards as good as fighters at fighting. Thats a terrible idea.

Using 2 stats to determine spellcasting: What do you think?

I voted maybe. At first glance it sounds okay, since combatants use str and dex for combat, why shouldn't spellcasters need both int and wis (or chr depending on the spellcaster). I'd have to think about it though to land on one side of the fence. :)

d20/D&D books you own: likes, dislikes, actually uses

I HATE all my books with prestige classes! Just kidding. I have about, oh, about 200 D20 books right now. Half of them are slated to get sold or dumped. I have about 30 pdf's. The pdf's are catching up to my print total. Although my D20 consumption has slowed down in general...

    Why Prestige Classes?

*Shrugs* ALL of them? :) Certaintly i believe its at least most of them. I haven't really run into any that coulddn't be done with multclassing and feats. Prestige class abilities can easily be turned into feats or core class options (i'll beat the assassin horse again and use the Death Attack...

    Why Prestige Classes?

Agreed! So WHY have just another game mechanic that isn't necessary. Why not simplify things instead of complicate them? :D I think 3E's motto (or at least it used to be) of options (or was it choices?) is great. I just don't think prestige classes are so much an extra option as much as they...

    Why Prestige Classes?

I haven't seen a class ability from any prestige class that could be turned into a feat or feat chain yet. What kind of BAB, Save, or spell-use boosts or variations do prestige classes give you that core classes can't? I don't think that is the case. Characters don't need a ton of feats to...

    Why Prestige Classes?

Sounds like a the same arguements i heard in favor of kits back in the day. :) Had sages before kits and prestige classes and have had them since those game mechanics. Don't see a big difference. Again, this seems more like players not having any confidence in their roleplaying or character...

    Why Prestige Classes?

Yes i have a problem with my group. I ALSO think that the prestige classe mechanic is both faulty and redundant. I've stated more than one reason why that has nothing to do with my gaming group's antics.

    Why Prestige Classes?

Exactly. Feats work perfectly well to specialize characters beyond their basic class. Prestige Classes are redundant game feature. It also sets a bad precedent if you ask me. You CAN'T be a Dwarven Defender without the prestige class? Huh? Does that mean my fighter can't retire and buy a tavern...
