is it? I think it may have been a screw up or a non-canon thing. The world have no orcs, no drow, no psionic and a few other critters... at base. (unless you accounts Spelljammer, Ravenloft or Planescape).

It's yet D&D fantasy, just inspired of another, less common source. About time D&D don't rehash the same old tired sources.

Do they really are close to historical and mythological bases? For one example, the mythological dwarves LOVED magic, as far I know.

Remember - the 'dark elves' of Krynn are a sociological insult for the elves who who follow evil, dark lives. Like Dalamar, the Silvanesti (?).

And so, why not for the dwarves of D&D by example, the race who stayed the closest to tolkien's ideas?

They didn't merely copy... They took a critter, gave it a new spin and made them distinctly them. Tastefull, flavorfull.

To be frank, I fear the fandom is a doostep who may block such revival... I am not against the setting, but the fandom always ended up making me discard it...

Minor point.... Drow where never united I think, not even once at the begining (not sure there). They always had fiercely independant city-states, like greeks or phoenicians. AT the very least after the Sundering.

Honestly, frankly..... the two racial options are minor. They won't kill many campaigns. I would have liked in PHB 1, but well, why don't you guys, yes, the whole FANDOM, didn't play them much if you think they where valuable? Don't moan at WOTC for EXACTLy throwing a gift at the fandom - two...

As I noted, in some worlds - like the D20-ified Warcraft game and Eberron setting, orcs have some lovin' at times.... However, as a band of generaly unpretty brutes and a decided agressive bent in base D&D, well...

But then, you'd hear 'ZOMG, WOTC ripped off WoW!!!'.... Not that this is one Warcraft bit that is not good to rip....

And US, humans, as the rapist generaly.... it's the stronger and more passionate side thing.... As for Tieflings, well... Except the religious devots, who really would oppose fiercely to their use? The only ones caring about that devil implications are the very relgiious ones, really.

Indeed... You should read on hyenas. Well, I will pipe in that, looking at Warcraft and the fanarts specially, there is some strangely.... attractive... orc girls.... Granted, it's not D&D, but frankly, the greenies can be attractive.
