D&D General Fantasy cannibalism, a theoretical philosophy discussion

So, many primitive peoples believed you could gain a hero's power by eating part of his body. This sounds like a type of necromancy to me, anyone have a hot take on cannibal magic?

    Sick, Twisted Villains?

If art does not make you squirm now and then, make you even have some trauma, is there a point to it? Art should shake your soul once in a while.

    Sick, Twisted Villains?

Yet this is a crime that happens commonly in the real world and in True Crime dramas. It seems like an issue that should be dealt with somehow in fiction...

    Sick, Twisted Villains?

You are writing a story or game adventure, what is the nastiest thing you would let a villain do? What vile deeds have your characters committed? Where do you draw the line? What is taboo in your writing?

D&D General The senseless achitecture in most official products

The game has always had great tools for designing dungeons (take a look at the Dungeoneer's Survival Guide), it is just lazy design work that leads to dungeons that do not make sense.

D&D General The senseless achitecture in most official products

If a purple worm or similar creature "digests" rock, that means some of the rock is converted into energy, which leaves its body as waste heat. Another portion of the rock is incorporated into the body of the worm. The rest becomes "waste", which would most likely be some time of sludge since...

    D&D 5E (2014) Mythological Figures: David

David was like a Level 1 Fighter when he slew Goliath. He rolled a natural 20, got that critical, and knocked the giant out, then used Goliath's own sword to do a coup de grace on him and take his head as a trophy. Later on, I think he took a few levels of Bard that allowed him to calm Saul's...

D&D General Mechanics you DO want to see return

The game within a game was one of the best things about being a psionicist. It added new levels of strategy to the game. Depending on the setting, there could easily be parties where everyone had psionic powers. Take a look at the original 2E Dark Sun campaign.

D&D General Mechanics you DO want to see return

A skill and feat based psionics system with tangents and telepathic combat. Just update all of the 2E rules to fit the new skill system. Add a non-Athasian version of harbingers and constructs to make mental combat more complex and strategic. You can see something similar in the Star Wars d20...

    Roleplaying As Catharsis?

There is something to be said for imagining the orc you just beheaded looks like that schmuck at work who consistently pisses you off or pretending you are actually smooth when you play a bard. Embracing your shadow during play can help you let go of issues bringing you down.

D&D 5E (2014) PHB shows up in Target.

I heard their RPG as a decent set of rules and lots of crunchy bits that can be ported into other games without too much work.
