D&D 5E (2014) Of Hearth and Home: Everyday Magic

But if you are going to have a long running campaign, it is going to become boring if there is no depth and authenticity, a single adventure does not a campaign make. Eventually, you want an immersive world that seems real to your players.

D&D 5E (2014) Of Hearth and Home: Everyday Magic

Even if there is no magic, what people believe will be based on the needs of society and the worshipers, not the requirements of heroes. So domains should be based on the religious beliefs of the worshipers, not what works in the game. Otherwise, you have a shallow, flat world that lacks...

D&D 5E (2014) Of Hearth and Home: Everyday Magic

Just remember that not everyone who uses it is an adventurer. It will end up being used for things that are not combat or survival related. Clerical domains are not based on the %0.0001 of worshipers that become heroes or villains. They are based on the beliefs of common worshipers. While the...

D&D 5E (2014) Of Hearth and Home: Everyday Magic

Good stuff. Not everything in the game has to be of use to players. If magic is a real force in the world, it will be used for real things and in real ways, not just for adventuring.

    D&D 5E (2014) Mythological Figures: David

The opposite of Herakles would be someone like Forrest Gump, who says "I am not a smart man, but I know what love is..." He has wisdom passed on to him from his mother that lets him make the right choices in life despite not be clever or intellectual.

Unearthed Arcana Spells & Magic Tattoos: New Unearthed Arcana

I like the idea of dyeing feathers. A feathered creature would not be using what could technically be called tattoos, as they are not using a needle to inject dye into the skin, but would be using their own equivalent to a tattoo that functions the same way. That actually makes sense.

    D&D 5E (2014) Mythological Figures: David

I am thinking Herakles was low on Wisdom, not Intelligence. He made a lot of really bad life choices, but he was a clever fighter. I would give him an Int 13-14, not brilliant, but above average.

Unearthed Arcana Spells & Magic Tattoos: New Unearthed Arcana

Hmm... Oh! Birdlike races could cut inscriptions and images into their beaks... ...And most have some bare skin on their hands and feet that could be tattooed.

D&D General Fantasy Byzantine Setting Brainstorming

Take a look at the 2nd Edition Historical Reference series, they included books on Rome and Greece. The books on the Celts and Vikings could give you help developing the Varangians. Besides what we call Christianity and the Roman pantheon, there were many religions at play in the Eastern Empire...

Londo Mollari would have fit in well in this period, you could base an NPC on him, a noble who wants his kingdom to be feared around the world.

D&D General Fantasy Byzantine Setting Brainstorming

Go with the rumour, innuendo, and stereotypes, they create more drama. Convert the Dune Trader from Athas as a merchant class, throw in some Eunuch Warlocks from OA into the royal court and bureuacracy, adapt OA ninjas to act as spies employed by nobles in court. Constantinople was at a...

    Batman's Martial Arts

Bartitsu (Doyle spelled it wrong) is a serious and effective martial art created by a British soldier who travelled around Asia, where he spent some time learning martial arts. It is a fairly complete art, including grappling, strikes, and weapon techniques.

    Batman's Martial Arts

The only way for a Kryptonian to have a challenging workout while under a yellow sun would be through body weight exercises and isometrics. Even with these techniques, it takes a long time to see even a small improvement.

D&D General Fantasy Byzantine Setting Brainstorming

"Byzantine" is used to connote complicated schemes and political games, a baroque level of urban plots. Spies, assassins, merchant princes, and other city-based characters and plots should be emphasized...
