    D&D 5E (2014) Heroes of Hydellor

Mindra takes a shot at the magically moving armor from the doorway then steps back around the corner. @tglassy I believe it is Coriana that has Devil's Sight, not Mindra. :) With regular Darkvision Mindra has disadvantage to sight perception checks, but not attack luckily. ;) Shortbow attack...

    D&D 5E (2014) Heroes of Hydellor

Mindra will head out of the bedroom and back to the large room with the braziers. She stops and listens for a bit, then moves to the door in the north wall and puts her ear to it to listen. She also checks for traps and to see if the door is locked. Perception at the door: 1D20+8 = [9]+8 = 17

    D&D 5E (2014) Heroes of Hydellor

Mindra will check out the items with Liam. She is not sure at first about letting him carry the gold, but decides that now is not the right time to discuss it. "If that bottle is a healing potion, it will come in handy." Mindra turns and heads back out of the room. "We should find the 'bride'...

    D&D 5E (2014) Heroes of Hydellor

Mindra takes a deep breath as the Goblin groom finally falls. Then, looking back at Coriana and Liam, she frowns. They were both acting strange. Like something significant just happened, but she doesn't know what it is. Pulling out a cloth, Liam to covers his eyes and walks over to a chest. He...

    D&D 5E (2014) Critical Failures

I was going to just let this thread die, but then I had an idea that might work for my group. (And maybe others?) The idea is that if you roll a 1 on an attack and do not hit with any other attack that round, the 1 becomes a critical failure. With this method your chance of rolling a 1 goes up...

    D&D 5E (2014) Critical Failures

It's simple, but the more attacks you have, the greater the chance that your opponent will get an Opportunity Attack. In other words, the higher level your fighter is, the more he is going to leave himself open, which is the opposite of how it should work. Likewise with ranged weapons, the...

    D&D 5E (2014) Critical Failures

I will probably just do this. A funny description of a really bad miss (nat 1) without any mechanical repercussions is good enough.

    D&D 5E (2014) Critical Failures

Hmmm... A chart is kinda similar to the confirmation roll. It is still another roll, but instead of nothing happening, I could have something amusing, but not really game effecting, happen. Not sure if I want to add a chart though. Sorry, misunderstanding here. Sure the monsters, altogether...

    D&D 5E (2014) Critical Failures

Me either. Hence this post. :) Even limited to once a round a 5th level two weapon fighter still has 3 chances to crit fail in a turn. And I have considered "confirming" the failure, but that is more dice rolling and complication, which is something I want to avoid. I think my real trouble...

    D&D 5E (2014) Critical Failures

Some of the players in my game have expressed interest in having critical failures in the game. I will admit it is fun when the enemy rolls a natural one and things go hilariously bad for them, but the fact is that critical failures are far more devastating to player characters than to monsters...

D&D 5E (2014) D&D Promises to Make the Game More Queer

Okay. I understand where you are coming from. And I think a great many others also now understand. But it is not just Black and White. Either all propaganda is okay or no propaganda is okay. In the real world there are shades of grey. So some "propaganda" is fine, even in kid shows, and some is...

D&D 5E (2014) D&D Promises to Make the Game More Queer

Yeah, no. You have this backwards. What if D&D came out and said, "we're no longer going to exclude images of blacks in our gamebooks." Now how torn do you feel?

D&D 5E (2014) D&D Promises to Make the Game More Queer

It seems in the world today that there is a greater inclusion of LGBTQ characters in all forms of entertainment. Movies, TV, books, songs, and RPGs. That's all good. However there has been some who argue (myself included for a while) that the inclusion is forced into the story and is not...

    D&D 5E (2014) [5e] Lvl 20 dilemma

Sure, not all campaigns lasted to high levels in AD&D, but they didn't just assume that you wouldn't. They left the door open for high level play. Gygax and his group certainly played to very high levels. That's how we got Mordenkainen, Robilar, Tenser and all of the others. They were just high...

    D&D 5E (2014) [5e] Lvl 20 dilemma

This is a new thing. And by new I mean last 10 or 20 years. :) The fact is, if you are still playing with the same group, there is no reason you can't break out your previous characters and start playing them again up to higher levels. It just takes a DM that is willing to create a campaign for...

    D&D 5E (2014) Heroes of Hydellor

    Mindra continues to engage the enraged goblin, but knows she can't dodge forever. Rapier attack against Ralix.: 1D20+6 = [6]+6 = 12 1D8+4 = [6]+4 = 10

    D&D 5E (2014) Hit points explained

Obviously the most logical way to do it is like Order of the Stick. The more damage you take the more red lines you get. Once you get so many red lines you are out of HP you get 'X's on your eyes and you are dead. Healing magic removes red lines. Doing it any other way would be silly.

    D&D 5E (2014) Heroes of Hydellor

Mindra far prefers fighting with a partner, but Coriana is hurting and the others seem intent on casting spells. Hoping that Liam's sheet of flame is enough of a distraction, Mindra darts in to stab at the goblin leader. Not sure where Liam is. If he is close enough to threaten Ralix, Mindra...
