    Help with Alignment Bookkeeping

Here's a little something that mmadsen, myself, and others cooked up a few months ago--unfortunately, the original thread was lost in the changeover, so this is only dimly remembered... (Those familiar with Pendragon will recognize much of this.) The alignments are recorded in diametrically...

    Rant on d20

mmadsen-- Something else that might be nice for future editions would be the ability to "dial in" (thanks Fuzion ;) ) different settings in order to re-create just the feel you're after in a campaign--anything from grim and gritty to wild and wahoo. Your comment about allowing players to...

    [Decipher] LotR RPG?

Here's the official word... http://calder.decipher.com/cgi-bin/msgbd?lotr-rpg$32498-16265$2 He goes on to say in a later post that it typically takes 2-6 weeks to hit the shelves after going to the printer. For further updates, just stop by the message board occaisionally and look for the...

    Weapon: Stonebow

You're right there. The stone won't return to true like an arrow will as it flexes after passing the stave. The user has to allow the bow to rotate as he releases, and it has to be done with such timing that the stone flies true, and the hand is not struck. Though I think, once the timing is...

    Halfling Slinger: Ideas?

FWIW, I always house ruled that slings don't suffer penalties for poor strength--thus helping to explain why they're so popular with small creatures, such as Halflings. Damage for a sling is more about velocity, and this should be governed by DEX.

    Weapon: Stonebow

Incidentally, there was also a shortbow version of the stonebow. I think I've got an article about it in an issue of Primitive Archer--I'll see if I can dig it up. IIRC, the article concerned its use in Nepal (?). There was a prohibition against needlessly killing animals, yet the farmers...

    Who still plays Basic D&D?

Like the situation on the WotC OOP board--only in reverse :( I don't know why it seems to bother some peolple when someone else enjoys something a bit different from their own preferences, oh well... In any event, I think www.dragonsfoot.org is going to be a nice place to gather and discuss...

? for the History Buffs: Roman Arms & Armor

In addition to John Warry's text, two books that I can't recommend highly enough if you're interested in the period... Peter Connolly's Greece and Rome at War--similar to Warry's, but with greater detail. Brassey's Roman Army, Wars of the Empire by Graham Sumner--makes use of color photographs...

What is the most simple RPG?

Re: Re: What is the most simple RPG? ...or mmadsen's much anticipated re-write of the D&D Adventure Game. ;) BTW, I'm serious...so get to work!

What is the most simple RPG?

Speaking of tossing coins... That's the very mechanic used in the old Prince Valiant RPG. As far as RPGs go that are easy for a newbie player (as well as GM) to jump right in and play--I think it's hard to beat the old Basic D&D red booklets.

    Who still plays Basic D&D?

Rather than starting a new thread in house rules, I thought I'd ask this here... I've been thinking of including a variant Elf Template, one that isn't tied to the Mystaran conception of all Elves being users of magic--something along these lines... ARCANE (Option II) (4) (200%) (3) N/A (2)...

    Who still plays Basic D&D?

Try going HERE ;) Thanks--Like I said, if you want a hard copy I'll e-mail you one in Word. :) (It's just the class creation template stripped of most house rules.) There are a couple devoted to OOP D&D, but all that I've found concentrate primarily on AD&D (specifically, 2e). I've been...
