    Balancing a d20 hit die

Just a quick note before heading off to bed :) I don't have any ideas wrt the d20 HD right now, but maybe this could work... ---d12 HD ---No Shield ---Ignorant of HPs while in Rage ---Can keep fighting till -HPs, at -HPs he falls dead. ---When coming out of his rage... ---------If HPs...

    VP/WP Difficult Issues, Ideas Wanted

You might like to take a look at the new Traveller RPG, they're offering a FREE Light Version in PDF. It also has an interesting take on damage reduction that might work well with the increased damage potential of your proposed weapons. Hope it provides some ideas ;)

    New Core Class: The Priest

You're right, I hadn't considered the Fighter's bonus feats. You're also correct in stating that they're difficult to quantify. (And given 3e feats and multi-classing, I don't think they should have double either--not without further restrictions.) Hmmm... Could the Cleric's Turn Undead...

    New Core Class: The Priest

Actually made a mistake while I was typing--not quite sure what I was thinking :o I allow double spell slots for High Priests, and 1.5 times normal spells for Priests. HIGH PRIEST --HD: d4 --Combat: as M-U --Spells: x2 PRIEST --HD: d6 --Combat: as M-U --Spells: x1.5 WARRIOR-PRIEST(Cleric)...

    New Core Class: The Priest

I've always viewed the (C)leric as being something of an average or amalgam of the (F)ighter and some hypothetical (P)riest class...P=2C-F. Given that assumption, the starting point for my Priest would be something along the following lines... BAB: +1/2 (2(.75)-1) HD: d6 (2(8)-10) Save...

    BAB and Armor

Not sure about that myself, but I wanted to be complete. I think it would work fairly well though. Sure, a character could devote all of his advances to damage, but he wouldn't be hiiting any more often than at 1st level--and even less against a foe that has devoted some of his advances to AC...

    BAB and Armor

That's what I found to be the case. But what about my idea to make it a one time choice... To fix this, you could rule that a character has to make a choice each time he receives a BCB advance concerning which category it will be permanently assigned to--this could be reflective of his general...

    BAB and Armor

I suggested the same thing in a thread a month or so ago on the general board. I think we were discussing alternate ways to scale advancement, besides simply increasing HPs--something like that. You could even add a third choice to the mix...extra damage. So you could choose to add your BCB...

    Which edition(s) do you play?

LOL :) Fair enough, let's see if I can explain my logic. Remember, I'm not trying to convert anyone, just trying to explain my preference within the context of my game ;) 1: Knowing the actual number required on a d20 is crucial for many of my house rules--and this takes just as much math...

    Which edition(s) do you play?

I admit that the new system is easier and more intuitive in most cases--but it's actually more difficult to use given the fact that I let PCs attempt certain activities by accepting a penalty; however, I don't allow them to raise their required To Hit number above 20 when doing this. For...

    Cannibalism among PCs, take two

(Guess I'll re-post this from the other thread...) Let's see... I got 'inspired' after reading DUNE for the first time many, many moons ago. I poulated the Sea of Dust with a race whose fighters were actually Monks. Sand colored purple worms infested the region. The warriors used...

Have you ever run a character who ate humans or demihumans?

Let's see... I got 'inspired' after reading DUNE for the first time many, many moons ago. I poulated the Sea of Dust with a race whose fighters were actually Monks. Sand colored purple worms infested the region. The warriors used hand-crossbows firing darts with paralytic poison, and carried...

    Which edition(s) do you play?

I'm currently playing Basic D&D--though I like using AD&D (1e) when I run a campaign set in Greyhawk. Tried 3e, went back to THACO!

    Civil War-era firearms in D&D

Just scanned your site quickly--I'll look at it more closely later. I did notice one minor thing however, there were also percussion revolvers--though many of them were later converted to fire cased ammunition. The Colt Army and Navy models are two examples of these (if memory serves).

Dream products that will never see the light of day...

Hmmm... So far evrything named has been d20. With the OGL they at least stand a chance of seeing the light of day--albeit, perhaps a slim one in certain cases. Now, the product I REALLY yearn for, yet know I will never see... A revision of 1st Edition AD&D by Gary Gygax--complete with new...

    Civil War-era firearms in D&D

In support of the armour penetration ability... IIRC the old Battle System rules had firearms ignore the first 4 points of armour protection, or some such--AC benefits due to DEX, Cover, etc. were not affected.

Can anybody post the afterword of the 1st ed DMG?

Well, let's see if I can type this without 10 other people responding first ;)... It is the spirit of the game, not the letter of the rules, which is important. Never hold to the letter written, nor allow some barracks room lawyer to force quotations from the rule book upon you, if it goes...
