    Limited number of combat rounds

Combat in our group tends to go into a drag after a couple of rounds, especially once the group composition shifted to a more defensive approach (more leader/controller, defender seem to dish out quite some damage) More often than not, I simply declare the fight to be over. I do that after it...

What adventure module defines D&D to you?

The Homlet/Moathouse Part of Return to the Temple of Elemental Evil. (Maybe ad the Nulb/Temple Ruins.) used with extensive knowlege of the old T1. I have run this part of the adventure very often, I love it as a starter. Whenever I am DM for a new group of players I use this. What I love about...

    D&D 4E pre 4e Style Elementals

Wow, I imagine this as a huge Earth Elemental full of fossils... very cool :)

    D&D 4E pre 4e Style Elementals

Thats a good idea, Archons allways felt much more persistent to me than the new elementals. I found a solution for the 4e elementals that might work for me as well (for those encounters they are just neccessary for). I allways liked using animals with the half-elemental template as natural...

    D&D 4E pre 4e Style Elementals

Thats what I do at the moment (more or less on the fly) ... the weird thing is... why are all elementals different? There are sneaky lurker earth elementals and big soldier earth elementals and more... I understand that helps to create varied encounters, but I am running out of describtions :)

    D&D 4E pre 4e Style Elementals

Oh, no need to create some, I could do that. I was just curious if someone has allready done so.

    D&D 4E pre 4e Style Elementals

Has anyone created pre 4e Style Elementals (you know, small to huge Fire, Earth, Water etc.) elementals? DMing Revenge of the Giants enhanced by Monuments of the Ancients quickly made me loath the new mixed elements + 2 buzzwords creatures, as I ran out of way to describe them without sounding...

    Dungeon Denizens / Creature Collection

@Glyfair - in a way I like this 'not overly creative' design. At times, 4e seems to chaotic, for my taste. I have a hard time describing fire, for example, in a way to make all the different effects it might have somehow imaginable. Besides the obvious ongoing damage, there is fire that adds to...

    Dungeon Denizens / Creature Collection

What I had to remind my self of, I actually do not use the Monster Builder for much more than the compendium (Printing Stats). As I bought both books as pdfs, I can do that easily. Leveling a monster manually using a pencil and said print out is actually pretty fast, I do not know why I forgot...

    Dungeon Denizens / Creature Collection

I have been very reluctant to buy any third party stuff for 4e. I was waiting for new Necromancer Games stuff, as their modules and the Tome of Horrors actually added more to my 3e DMing than any of Wizards books. I like the "old school" style, though I have no nostalgic memories about it. To...

"Ale and Whores" - looking for a more exciting action point mechanic

Hmm, I gave this some more thought, and I think AP just wont work without complication as a reward for sending money on random stuff in 4e. They are just to entrenched. I really like the idea of using the alternate rewards system. Something allong the lines of: Spend lots of gold on ale (thats...

"Ale and Whores" - looking for a more exciting action point mechanic

I'm currently researching houserules to add to our 4e gaming. after having played this game for 1.5 years without changing much, I think there are several things I would like to change. In 3e we had an exciting rule for the acquisition of action points. Spending money on other things than...

Dungeon 172 - Demonomicon of Iggwilv: Codricuhn, the Blood Storm

Great article. Though I find it hard to imagine a whole campaign based on Codricuhn. Maybe merge it with the Cult of the Elder Elemental Eye, both are related to Tharizdun anyway.

Simpler Treasure System with (mostly) Random Loot

Here is a good one: Quartermaster - Asmor.com I wish it had the AV2 Items added... oh well. @Eamon: I like your system. I tried using random treasure before, this will remove the balancing headaches :) Thanks a lot, you just removed the least fun of being DM for me

    Best 1st level Adventures

What are your favourite 1st level adventures? (Or higher level, I am looking for a nice campaign starter...) I have done the Village of Hommlet formula to death and am looking for some inspiration :)

Character Builder on a flash drive?

actually, you could use install a Linux to your USB stick and install a Windows virtual machine on that linux. If you install the character builder in that virtual machine you could boot into it where ever you are. (As long as the computers are able to boot from usb) You could just create a...

I really hope they will release more info soon. I was planning to use this adventure since I began my 4e campaign last year, and my players just hit level 12...

    Character Builder Beta available

well, you can allways run it in a Virtual Machine, if you have an old XP disc somewhere... thats what I do. Makes the CB rather useless for netbook level computers with linux, though
