Excerpt: You and Your Magic Items

I don't see any evidence that you can't carry extra items in your pack/harness etc. just that you cant have 30 rings on at once and have simultaneous effects.

What I absolutely love about 4th edition thus far

Based on todays previews my fave thing is that they seem to be spelling things out for novice DMs much much better then they used to. I remember being 14 reading all the books from cover to cover and still not knowing wtf I was supposed to do.

How big will my character sheet be?!

As has already been said, Power cards.

Yes, yes, yes. But if you removed the pointless discussions I suppose this forum would implode from the sudden vacuum.

How're we supposed to divvy the loot?

Isn't the thief taking a bigger share through creative accounting and sleight of hand traditional at this point?

    Keep on the Shadowfell preview

Don't. The XP characters were made before the rules were finalized and we know that the Keep ones might have been shortened for space. They are pregen characters for using in the preview game, wait till you have the PHB before you try to determine relative power or whatever.

How will PC's make money in your world

Turning tricks, just like everybody else.

    D&D 4E 4e: Death of the Bildungsroman

Even 4e can be lethal without encounter fudging. Every time the DM decides not to shoot the wizard who is already bleeding out on the floor to finish him off (a very wise tactical move if the enemy knows you have any kind of healing) you are fudging in the players favor. In all the playtests...

    Excerpt: Economies [merged]

But can you get the same price for your Kandinsky that Sothebys can? No. If in your world magic items are as rare as Coke then there is no reason to have to hunt for a buyer/seller but in a more 'standard' dnd world where magic items are rare and valuable you need access to a clientel with a...

    D&D 4E Problem with 4e Multiclassing

The class does not define what kind of person you are, it defines what you do in a fight each round. What you describe is not a problem with the multi classing rules unless you want to do something 'leadery' every other round when fighting. What is that again?

    Excerpt: Economies [merged]

Only if it has a kick-ass sound track. This 'if it does not exist in the rules it cannot happen' thing is crazy though. A book defining a game that models a 'real' world in a 'real' universe would be longer than anyone here could ever read in their lifetime.

How're we supposed to divvy the loot?

Only a fight to the death can determine loot distribution fairly. That or not being uptight about it. It would behoove the DM to try to not give all the level +4 items that are usable by the same class for balance though so over a few levels it will even out fine.

    Excerpt: Economies [merged]

People are assuming that it is a question of X cash now vs. XXX cash in little while. A dm can perfectly reasonably say 'you might get XXX someday, but noone has offered it yet.' And keep saying that till the campaign is over. The players can sleep soundly knowing that they did not get 'ripped...

    D&D 4E 4e: Death of the Bildungsroman

I would agree although I would go further to say that nothing I have seen in this thread is a problem, unless you are really looking for a problem to have.

    Excerpt: Economies [merged]

The One Ring was not a magic item (by these rules) it was a plot device so I don't think any rules are needed. Just a 'this item seems very strange and powerful to you, unlike anything you have seen, you doubt you can master it' and if they pursue it anyway 'there is a flash of light and you...

    KotS Healing Potions

Well if you go to the Iron Age in general possessing a moderately well crafted sword was like owning a sports car now, not something every joe-blow let alone every bandit would have casual access to. For a game like this any sense of historically realistic economy is pretty much out the window...

Rogue 2nd level utility an encounter power

I think people think this is still 3.5, tumble takes on a different meaning in a world where shifting happens all the time and combat is more dynamic from the start.

I respect myself too much to do that.

    No 4th ed D&D computer game...why? :(

Maybe because PoR2 was.. junk? While a turn based 4e dnd game would be cool I think producers would much much much rather publish an action game that can easily be played on a 360 or a ps3. They want money.

    It's No Longer A Joke

Nothing, those levels are undefined in the rules. But this is not an MMO so you can make whatever you want to happen at level 31. You will, however, be off the reservation totally so any problems you have with balance/source material whatever is entirely your problem. I would guess some third...
